Julia Boyes

National Sales Manager, Medication Management Solutions
Mississauga

We are the makers of possible: Building up Pharm Systems in Canada

Fortunate. As Julia Boyes looks back on the eight years she has been employed by BD, this is the word that encapsulates her experience.

“I’ve had four different roles during my time with BD and I consider myself very fortunate to have had those experiences through the help and support of my managers and mentors,” said the National Sales Manager for Pharmacy Automation who is based in the BD Mississauga, Ontario, office. “My team and I work with pharmacies across Canada to increase awareness of our Pharmacy Automation Solutions.”

Growing business; growing a team

The Pharmacy Automation business at BD is a growth area for the company. Julia and her team have been working hard to establish the business in Canada – ensuring a foundation for strong customer relationships and service.

“I do feel incredibly fortunate to have the team and leadership support that I have in this role. It’s been an incredibly busy past several months building and training the team, but you can really feel the sense of excitement and motivation among us.  We know we are building something truly great,” said Julia. “With the fantastic work this team is doing, I know that my role is aligned to our Purpose of advancing the world of healthTM and that is very inspiring.”

Growth mindset supported by lifelong commitment to learning

Julia graduated from Acadia University with a bachelor’s degree in business administration followed by her MBA from Wilfried Laurier University, which she obtained while working full time. But she did not stop there. She also holds certifications in Lean Six Sigma as a Black Belt (ICBB) and Project Management Professional (PMP).

She began her career with BD as an Account Manager in Preanalytical Systems, then shifted over to serve as a Product Manager in Hazardous Drug Safety in Marketing. A few years later, she moved into Diagnostics as a Lab Automation Specialist and then into her current role in the summer of 2023.

“BD invests in their people so that they can achieve their best, and I have been fortunate to have experienced this firsthand. The managers and mentors I have had over the years have given me numerous opportunities to learn and grow in different areas of the organization, which has led me to and helped me take on my current role,” explained Julia.

Advice to Others?

“Network as much as you can at BD.  It takes an entire team to achieve great things, and we have so many incredible and dedicated people to work with. Take the time to get to know and learn from those around you.  And when you are ready to consider an internal move at BD, I recommend doing your homework. Every time I’ve applied for a new role, I did my research and got in touch with people working in that area because I wanted to ensure the role would be a good fit for me, and that I was a good fit for the role,” Julia remarked. “I’d also offer that you want to understand the value you bring to the table. How could your skills and experience help that business area elevate its goals further?”
