We are the creators of possible: The big and small benefits of working at BD

Louise An appreciates both the large size of BD, and at the same time, the “small” or close-knit nature of the team and leaders with whom she works. This is just one of the reasons why she celebrated 10 years with BD last year.

“One of the great things about BD is that I’ve continued to grow here. I’ve been so fortunate to work for different businesses, and help solve different challenges – personally, I am not the type of person who wants to be in the same role for 10 years. BD is big enough for me to try different things and take on different roles, yet small enough to still be recognized and have my leaders care about my development – which is a strength of the company for sure,” explained Louise.

Exposure to MedTech through MBA Internship Program

Louise had her first exposure to BD by joining the company in 2012 as an MBA intern during her graduate program at Northwestern University – Kellogg School of Management.  The internship left an indelible impression on her.

Today, Louise serves as Associate Director of Global Marketing overseeing the BD ChloraPrepTM skin preoperative skin antiseptic portfolio. While no two days are exactly alike, she says that her role is important to transferring customer needs into BD solutions, driving the growth strategy, tracking financial performance, collaborating across different regions and functions, solving supply issues, brainstorming on future innovations and so much more.

“When I think about BD and our focus, we are incredibly mission-driven,” commented Louise. “Everything we work on has the patient and the customer at the very core of it. We are working hard to make our products and solutions more accessible worldwide, which is exciting.”

Possibilities and Purpose Unite = Various Career Options

When Louise considers her future career path, she has considered returning to Korea, where she grew up and still has family living today, or Greater Asia. With BD’s global reach and scale, she certainly has an opportunity to find just the right match for her passions and career interests.

“The BD culture is another thing that I appreciate. The support, collegial feel, and willingness to help each other be great resonates with me deeply. It would be great to work in Asia and be closer to my extended family at some point,” she says.

When she is not supporting customers or healthcare professionals, Louise might be found playing golf with her husband, spending time with her daughter, who she gave birth to in fall 2022, or visiting the myriad national parks.

“My husband and I have golfed in many parts of the U.S., including Hawaii – we really love the sport. We also visited five national parks during our babymoon; it was so great to see the picturesque views and enjoy the hiking,” she concluded.
