Shannon Hillyer

Director of Global Customer Solutions
Franklin Lakes

We are the Makers of Possible: From Nurse to Go-to-Market Strategist

When Shannon Hillyer started her career with the company’s Medication Delivery Solutions (MDS) business about a decade ago, her current role really didn’t exist. She started with BD as a Clinical Consultant where she supported training and education on the use of vascular access products to clinicians and end users.

Today, as the Director of Global Customer Solutions, Shannon’s role is to work side-by-side with customers to create solutions that help clinicians leverage BD products to achieve optimal patient outcomes.  In this role, she can put her clinical experience specializing in infusion therapy and interventional cardiology to work even more.

“I started my nursing career at Boston Children’s Hospital and was not really sure what moving to BD or making the leap into the corporate world would mean for me,” said Shannon. “I remember when I joined, I was thinking there was a need to help doctors, nurses, and healthcare professionals with new innovations and additional education with regard to vascular access management, depending on the needs of the patients they were overseeing.”

At BD = We are People who Give Possibilities Purpose

“When I started doing assessments with customers several years ago – we were conducting about eight annually. We’ve now increased that to 250 assessments taking place each year in the US alone, and over 500 across the globe,” Shannon said. “I get a lot of job satisfaction in knowing that I worked alongside customers who are able to achieve positive clinical outcomes as a result of a partnership with BD. And when one solution is successful, then your customers have more confidence when you approach them with additional solutions that you think could help them, which is great.”

Myriad Opportunities to Learn, Grow, and Flourish

Shannon leads the go-to-market strategy and functional activities for vascular access management. That means being a clinical marketer focused on downstream marketing programs that help differentiate the value of BD devices and solutions – across all worldwide regions – to help drive growth and efficiencies, while supporting upstream innovations as well.

“There are so many opportunities here. We are not likely to run out of areas to support and educate our customers and help improve patient care at BD. In addition to my own growth, I’ve seen a lot of co-workers move through the organization with additional opportunities. There is never a day that I am not challenged here.”

She calls out that the company’s steadfast role as one of the global leaders in the MedTech space, along with The BD Way, aligns well with her own values and beliefs in caring for others.

“If I had to describe BD it would be challenging but very gratifying as a place to work and feel as if you are making a difference in the care patients are receiving,” Shannon noted. “No matter the challenge, we help make things possible in helping advance the world of healthTM.
