Job Description Summary

The Maintenance manager is responsible for leading a comprehensive, multi-shift maintenance department to ensure the maximum reliability, safety, and efficiency of manufacturing equipment and critical utilities (HVAC, WFI, Purified Water, Clean Steam, Compressed Air, Nitrogen) in a cGMP-regulated environment. This role drives proactive maintenance strategies (Preventive Maintenance [PM] and Predictive Maintenance [PdM]), manages the site facilities, and oversees a team of supervisors and technicians, ensuring seamless handovers across a 5-shift, 24/7 operation.
Shift Structure: 5-Shift Operation (24/7 Coverage with overlapping or rotating shifts to ensure continuous support).

Job Responsibilities:

  • Team Leadership & 5-Shift Management: Supervise and develop the maintenance organization across five shifts. Ensure clear communication protocols and effective shift handovers. Manage staffing, training, and qualifications to meet cGMP requirements.

  • Maintenance & Operational Reliability (cGMP): Develop and optimize planned and predictive maintenance programs targeting >98% asset availability. Leverage CMMS data to reduce reactive work. Lead root cause analyses (RCAs) and drive corrective and preventive actions (CAPA) to prevent recurrence.

  • Facility & Utility Management: Coordinate with the facilities manager, on the repair, and servicing of critical utilities including HVAC, WFI, Purified Water, Clean Steam, Compressed Air, and Nitrogen. Ensure validated state and environmental control for classified areas.

  • Compliance: Ensure adherence to cGMP, FDA, OSHA, and site quality/EHS systems. Keep facilities and records prepared for audits. Assist with internal and external audits.

  • Budget & Projects: Build and manage the annual maintenance budget with ≤5% variance. Plan and complete capital and expense projects, including shutdowns, upgrades, and equipment installations, using robust change control.

  • Tool Crib & Spares: Maintain targeted inventory levels. Control spare parts spend and ensure critical spares availability and life-cycle management.

  • Planning & Scheduling: Implement coordinated maintenance planning with Production. Prioritize work, manage backlog, and eliminate delays from missing information, materials, or tools. Improve schedule adherence.

  • Data & Continuous Improvement: Maintain comprehensive equipment work and cost history. Monitor important metrics such as overall equipment efficiency, mean time between failures (MTBF), and mean time to repair (MTTR). Drive reliability initiatives and maintenance standard work.

Key Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in Engineering, Industrial Technology, or a related field.

  • Proven experience in a leadership role within a manufacturing environment.

  • Comprehensive understanding of cGMP, FDA, OSHA, and EHS regulations.

  • Strong background in maintenance and operational reliability.

  • Excellent leadership and team management skills.

  • Proficiency in using CMMS for maintenance management.

  • Outstanding problem-solving and analytical abilities.

  • Ability to manage budgets and projects effectively.

  • Strong communication and collaboration skills.
