Job Description
The individual will work at the Columbus, NE Manufacturing site, supporting MDS R&D business priorities and may interface with cross-functional teams and broader MDS teams as required.
The successful candidate will have experience with organic chemistry and/or analytical chemistry characterization, with ability to work independently, has excellent attention to detail and ability to work in cross-functional teams.
Responsibilities:
Support the analysis and development of chemistry methods to support business design work. May develop and complete validations for chemistry test methods and/or equipment validations.
Interfaces with other departments and functions to ensure completion of product development and validation related activities.
May be responsible for the maintenance of complex laboratory equipment.
Applies knowledge in scientific theories and innovative ideas to the execution of process development and design transfer to manufacture across multiple product development efforts to meet business objectives.
Provides input into the establishment and implementation of SOPs/best practice documents for testing equipment and to solve problems.
Collate, analyze, present findings and summaries in regular team meetings with immediate team or cross functional teams and direct project teams as appropriate.
Work with project leads on prioritizing and planning test plans.
Promote a safe work environment. May provide recommendations on maintaining the safety of the work environment. Participates in Environmental Health and Safety programs. Addresses corrective actions whenever a hazard is identified. Notifies supervisor and/or manager of all observed hazardous conditions or unsafe work practices.
Establish as a “go to person”/SME for top chemistry methods (ie. HPLC, GPC, wet chemistry, Spectroscopy, etc)
Cross trains peers within the immediate team.
Applies knowledge in scientific theories and innovative ideas to the execution of method development, establishing best practices to enable innovation and upfront development efforts to meet business objectives, may provide suggestions to improve processes / fixturing to ensure improved efficiency in testing.
Quickly learns and actively seeks out learnings to increase knowledge in technical competency areas.
Up to date on latest technologies and suggests new technologies as seen fit.
Other responsibilities or projects as assigned by reporting manager.
Education / Experience:
B.S. Degree in Chemistry, Engineering, or Life Science, minimum of 2-5+ years of relevant proven experience or a combination of equivalent education and experience. (Master's - 3 yrs experience, Bachelor's 5 yrs experience and PhD 0-1 yr experience.)
Minimum Requirements:
Proven experience with analytical chemistry testing and laboratory operations in an R&D, quality, or manufacturing support environment.
Working knowledge of HPLC, titration, wet chemistry, spectroscopy, particulate matter testing, and related analytical methods used to characterize medical device or pharmaceutical products.
Ability to execute, analyze, troubleshoot, and document laboratory testing with strong attention to detail and data integrity.
Strong diagnostic, analytical, technical, and critical-thinking skills, including the ability to interpret results, identify sources of error, and compare the advantages and limitations of different methodologies.
Knowledge of scientific methods, experimental design, data analysis, and results interpretation.
Experience supporting equipment qualification and test method validation activities, including IQ, OQ, PQ, method verification, and method validation.
Ability to work effectively within teams and across functions, businesses, and project groups.
Good interpersonal, communication, project planning, and prioritization skills.
Ability to learn new scientific and technological approaches quickly and apply them in a fast-paced technical environment.
Commitment to laboratory safety, EHS expectations, compliance, and appropriate escalation to leadership when needed.
Preferred Qualifications:
Hands-on expertise running and troubleshooting HPLC, LC-MS, GC-MS, FTIR, ICP-MS/OES, light obscuration, microscopy, titration, and other wet chemistry or spectroscopy methods.
Experience with assay types and methods relevant to saline, citrate, heparin, particulate matter, extractables, and elemental impurity testing.
Familiarity with applicable standards and guidance, including USP <788>, USP <85>, USP <71>, USP <232>, USP <233>, ICH Q1A, and ICH Q3D.
Experience with statistical analysis, test method development, laboratory investigations, and technical report writing.
Understanding of computer system validation and 21 CFR Part 11 compliance expectations.
Demonstrated ability to apply innovative approaches to product development, method development, laboratory efficiency, or troubleshooting.
Proven track record of agility, continuous learning, independent problem solving, and collaboration in a dynamic environment.
Physical Demands:
May stand or sit for long periods of time
Possibility of carrying heavy objects as required
