Material Handler III/Traffic Coordinator

Job Description

Coordinator must communicate with individuals at different levels in the organization. He/She must provide ongoing progress reports when needed. Traffic coordinators work with outside carriers, brokers, International BD Affiliates and internal departments to maintain and adjust a schedule for consistent process flow for documentation. This is needful and essential in order to ensure on time delivery and processing for all customers domestically and globally.

 Job duties may include but are not limited to:

  • Transport Creation and Processing.
  • Proactive in coordinating forwarder service and necessary bookings.
  • Maintain a weekly schedule of daily shipments.
  • Help to maintain internal BD Inquires for orders or shipments.
  • Customer service for all customers via email and phone calls.
  • Coordinating of shipments according to cut off dates for Transportation Fixed Schedule.
  • Maintaining daily reports and communications concerning the status of shipments with BD Internal and External Customers.
  • Prepare Transportation documentation when needed.
  • Support other areas inside Transportation Department
  • Performs tasks associated with the order filling and/or over-packing of BD products for customer orders.
  • Knowledgeable of parcel shipping operations
  • Effectively works in a team setting, supporting team goals and objectives
  • Makes effective decisions relative to position requirements.
  • Works on assignments that are routine in nature following all BD Distribution Center procedures.
  • Must have the ability to recognize when deviation from an accepted practice may be required.
  • Ability to work independently as required.
  • May receive general supervision with little instruction on routine work.
  • Ability to learn and use packaging equipment
  • Must be able to work in refrigeration (2-8 Celsius) up to 10 hours per day
  • Shift is 7 AM - 3:30 PM
  • Overtime may be required based on business needs
  • Reading, writing, and basic arithmetic skills required. 
  • Must be able to keep detailed record of logs and documents. 
  • Coordination of mental and physical attention of thought, hand, and eye required.
  • Must be able to lift/move 5-25 lbs. continuously, 40% 70% of the time.
  • May be responsible for conducting cycle counts to maintain accurate inventories.

  • Qualifications:

  • A high school diploma or GED is required.  Associates or Bachelor’s Degree is preferred. 
  • At least 2+ years of International Logistics and Transportation Coordination work experience is required.
  • Problem Solving and Troubleshooting skills.
  • Demonstrated experience with SAP 6.0
  • Thorough knowledge of all International modes of Transportation (Ocean, Air, Ground).
  • Preferred: Hazardous Materials Certification (DOT, IATA and IMDG).
  • Working knowledge/understanding of Warehousing, and Shipping functions
  • Enterprise Resource Planning Systems and Warehouse/Transportation Management tools (WMS/TMS) preferred.

    Skills:

  • Excellent planning skills.
  • Ability to anticipate and troubleshoot problems and develop a plan of action to prevent delays in the organization's workflow.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word and Outlook)
  • Ability to multi task.  
  • Self-Starter and internally motivated for continuous improvement.
  • Proactive to problem identification and issue resolution; develop a plan of action to maintain and prevent delays in day to day functions.
  • Be able to work under stress, and have a high sense of urgency.
  • Able to work independently as well with others.  
  • Communicate effectively with all levels of the organization.  
  • Must be able to follow and interpret established internal and regulatory guidelines provided.
  • Must demonstrate BD Values, Customer focus, action/results orientation, strong communication skills, and ability to seek input and feedback from others.
  • Strong analytical and interpersonal skills, including the capability to work across multiple functional areas to influence change or to achieve desired results.
