Job Description

  1.0         JOB SUMMARY 1.1    Provides technical support for the engineering   and manufacturing
            departments in the area of control system maintenance and
            troubleshootuing, including such areas as PLC €™s ,servo €™s, motor controls,
            vision systems, pneumatics, hydraulics, molding equipment and other
            related systems.   Supports the engineering department in the area of
            control system programming and upgrades.
2.0         ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS 2.1    The essential functions of this position include but are not limited to:
            2.1.1    Diagnoses and correction of electrical and electronic malfunctions
                                which are beyond the capabilities of Setup personnel.
             2.1.2    Diagnoses and correction of PLC and related control system
                                malfunctions as well as installs, test, repairs, and adjusts other
                                electrical equipment such as recording, regulating, indicating and
                                controlling instruments.
            2.1.3    Repairs existing electrical and mechanical components and initiates
                                purchase requisitions for components or supplies as appropriate.
            2.1.4    Supports engineering initiatives for the development of new
                              equipment or upgraded control systems utilizing such technologies as
                               Servos, PLC €™s, vision systems, motor controls, molding equipment,
                               and other related systems.
            2.1.5    Supports production personnel for machine repair and overhaul as
                                 needed.
             2.1.6    Advises Parts Crib Attendant of parts needed for immediate use or for
                                stocking locations.
             2.1.7    Performs preventive maintenance as scheduled.
            2.1.8   Proposed design changes to supervisor in the areas of equipment  
                                upgrade, problem elimination, quality improvements and reduced  
                                costs.
3.0         OTHER RESPONSIBILITIES 3.1    Other responsibilities of this position include but are not limited to:
            3.1.1    Complies with all local, state, federal and BD safety regulations,
                                policies/procedures.
            3.1.2    Complies with all local BD quality policies/procedures/practices
                                through consistent application of sound Quality Assurance principles.
            3.1.3    Performs other job related duties as assigned.
            3.1.4    Observes all safety, environmental, and quality system standards.

2.0EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS REQUIRED

Education

Requires a two-year degree from a technical school in electrical or electronic field.

Experience

No experience required. Recommended 2 years of experience in troubleshooting automation equipment is preferred.

Physical RequirementsLevel 3

Medium Work:  Exerting 20 to 50 pounds occasionally or 10 to 25 pounds frequently, or up to 10 pounds constantly.  Physical demands requirement are in excess of those for Light Work.

Mental Requirements

Ability to read, write and understand English.

Equipment Use

Ability to operate computer, fork truck, pallet truck, small hand tools, electronic test equipment, etc. in successful completion of tasks.  Must be a licensed forklift operator.

Working Conditions

The worker is subject to inside environmental conditions:  Protection from weather conditions but not necessarily from temperature changes.

The worker is subject to hazards:  Includes a variety of physical conditions, such as proximity to moving mechanical parts, electrical current, working on scaffolding and high places, exposure to high heat or exposure to chemicals and broken glass. Worker is subject to atmospheric conditions:  One or more of the following conditions that affect the respiratory system or the skin: Fumes, odors, dusts, ,mist, gases, and poor ventilation.

Worker is subject to oils: There is air and/or skin exposure to oils and other cutting fluids.

Supervision

This position reports directly to the Process Engineering Lead. Has no supervision over others.
