Job Description Summary

1.1 This position provides leadership and supervision of Broken Bow molding operations and personnel. Responsibilities include leading the development and implementation of new molding and materials technology to consistently improve the productivity, quality, and profitability of molding operations. These activities include evaluating alternative materials to optimize overall product cost in addition to spearheading process improvements and cost reduction programs. Overseeing all aspects of molding and materials technology, this position drives projects from concept development to validation of implemented processes.

The essential functions of this position include but are not limited to:

  • Leads the Molding & Materials personnel to continually improve molding processes to achieve optimum product quality at the minimum product cost.

  • Drives cost reduction programs by evaluating molding processes and alternative materials.

  • Works with PAS and cross plant teams to achieve overall BD and Broken Bow plant business objectives.

  • Scans the external environment and benchmarks other manufacturing sites to stay abreast of technological advances in the fields of molding and materials.  Establishes projects and initiatives to implement best practices acquired through this process.

  • Guides direct reports and organization to the successful, timely and cost effective completion of molding projects.

  • Assures that machine and mold specifications and purchase requisitions for new equipment are prepared appropriately.  Supports the establishment of vendor supply agreements working with Material Control.

  • Working with the Engineering Manager and Accounting, establishes annual capital improvement budgets for Molding.  Assures these planned expenditures align with and support the long-term strategic direction of Molding.

  • Drives improvements to impact the safety of all associated with molding operations.

  • Establishes metrics and tracking methods to assure planned improvements are attained and that performance is sustained over time.

  • Guides and trains the Molding team in the preparation of CB-2’s, new project approvals, regulatory and BD systems requirements and process validations.

  • As the site lead for Molding processes, must have the proven ability to drive initiatives forward with little direction or established work processes.  Works with the Engineering Manager to establish long-term direction and planning for Molding operations.  Leads with vision and drives a culture of continual improvement within the site and broader business.

  • Serves as the focal point for Broken Bow on molding standardization, new product development, MPT molding projects, and R&D molding projects within PAS.

  • Must be able to work well with and direct others either through direct authority or as a team member/peer.

Education:

  • A four-year degree in Engineering or Materials is strongly preferred.

Experience:

  • Ten to fifteen (10-15) years experience in injection molding processing OR completion of preferred educational requirements and 4 - 6 years experience in injection molding.  Experience requirements may be waived for advanced degrees in Engineering or Materials.

  • The Engineer should have demonstrated experience with leading multiple complicated projects in both the short and long-term.

  • The ability to read, interpret, understand and create technical drawings and schematics required.

  • Experience and ability to operate sophisticated molding equipment and sound knowledge of molding processing and variables.

  • Must possess a working knowledge of machine shop practices, sound engineering practices and business/ management procedures and requirements.

  • Knowledge of material attributes and properties is essential.
