JOB SUMMARY

Provides technical support for manufacturing operations in the area of single stage refrigeration maintenance, two-stage refrigeration maintenance, and heating maintenance.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

The essential functions of this position include but are not limited to:

Performs diagnoses, repair, preventive maintenance and major overhaul of complex refrigeration processes.

Provides assistance with facility refrigeration equipment as required.

Proposes design changes to supervision in the area of equipment upgrades, problem eliminations, quality improvements and to reduce costs.

Interacts closely with other engineering team members supporting related projects.

Demonstrates initiative by routinely taking on challenging tasks that improve processes.

Advises Parts Crib Attendant of parts needed for immediate use or for stocking locations and initiates purchase requisitions when non-stocked parts are needed.

OTHER RESPONSIBILITIES

Other responsibilities of this position include but are not limited to:

Complies with all local, state, federal and BD safety regulations, policies/procedures.

Complies with all local BD quality policies/procedures/practices through consistent application of sound Quality Assurance principles.

Performs other job related duties as assigned.

Observes all safety, environmental and quality system standards.

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS REQUIRED

Education

Requires a two-year degree from a technical school with technical training in both single stage and two stage refrigeration.

Experience

Minimum of 4 years’ experience as a Refrigeration Technician.

Has performed diagnosis and repair of complex production refrigeration equipment, water chillers, and lyophilizer equipment, including vacuum and water cooling systems.  Knowledge of plant HVAC and other utility systems is a plus.  Has attended and applied training in at least two job related courses.

Physical RequirementsLevel 4

Heavy Work:  Exerting 50 to 100 pounds occasionally, or 25 to 50 pounds frequently, or 10 to 20 pounds constantly.  Physical demand requirements are in excess of those for Medium Work.

Mental Requirements

Strong oral and written communication skills required.

Equipment Use

Ability to operate computer, fork truck, pallet truck, small hand tools, Freon recovery unit, etc. in successful completion of tasks.  Must be a licensed forklift operator.

Working Conditions

The worker is subject to environmental conditions which may occur inside and outside.

Worker is subject to noise: There is sufficient noise to require hearing protection in posted areas.

Worker is subject to vibration: Exposure to oscillating movements of the extremities or whole body.

The worker is subject to hazards:  Includes a variety of physical conditions, such as over-exertion, cut/scrape, eye injury, struck by bodily reaction, hearing deficiencies, fall from same level, fall from elevation, contact with electricity, caught on, fumes, odors, dusts, mists, gases or oils.

Worker is subject to atmospheric conditions: One or more of the following conditions that affect the respiratory system or the skin: Freon, fumes, odors, dusts, mists, gases, and oils.

Supervision

No supervisory responsibilities.

Reports directly to the Process Engineering Supervisor.
