Job Description Summary

Responsible to the site Plant Manager to lead continuous improvement activities using Lean manufacturing and six sigma disciplines. Leads comprehensive BD Productivity System (BDPS) implementation for the Canaan site, including liaison to external consultants, BD Operational Excellence groups and Component Team Leaders. Leads Lean Manufacturing blitzes and Six Sigma projects to eliminate waste and improve business performance. Assists in planning, execution and monitoring of continuous improvement activities such as Lean Coordinators, Kaizen Action Sheets and 5S programs.

Job Description

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Assist in the implementation of Continuous Improvement programs as developed by the Plant Manager, Continuous Improvement Manager and the Executive Steering Committee (ESC/LT).
  • Participate as a member of the ESC.
  • Assist in training associates in the use of Lean tools used to achieve CI objectives.
  • Facilitate Lean Manufacturing Blitzes.
  • Lead projects and mentor project teams in problem solving efforts utilizing the DMAIC process to improve quality, reduce cost, improve process efficiencies, etc.
  • Assist with training candidates to become Six Sigma Greenbelts
  • Provide assistance and be a resource to functional departments and business units in identifying, planning, and implementing Six Sigma projects.
  • Perform analyses of systems and business processes to identify, recommend and implement modifications that will improve efficiencies and overall plant performance.
  • Provide management with project status updates, feedback, and appropriate reporting on selected projects.
  • Responsible for performing job function in compliance with all applicable federal, state, local, and company regulatory requirements.

REQUIREMENTS

  • BA/BS Degree (Major: Engineering (ME/IE/EE) or Scientific discipline preferred)
  • 3-5 years Manufacturing Operations experience
  • ​2 years Six Sigma and Lean Manufacturing experience.

PREFERRED AND ADDITIONAL SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS

  • Six Sigma Certification
  • Lean Leader Certification
  • Experience taking a leading role, such as assigning activities to other associates who perform work that is similar or closely related to this position (50% or more of the time)
  • SAP
  • Proficient in use of computer software.  Specifically, MS Office programs such as Excel, Word and Visio.

  • Experience in project management.

  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.
