Job Description Summary

The Senior Marketing Manager (SMM) is responsible for leading U.S. region marketing for the Critical Care franchise, the largest business within the Becton Dickinson, Urology and Critical Care product portfolio.

This individual will manage and contribute meaningfully to the continued robust growth for this key platform while hiring, retaining and developing a team of individuals necessary to achieve strategic objectives. In additional to the day to day management of the strategic and tactical implementation of all U.S. region programs, this individual will be an integral partner in developing and executing business strategies that will have an immediate and long-term impact the urological drainage category nationally. This SMM will identify and assess new product/category development opportunities at a U.S. region level in balance with opportunities derived through partnership and acquisition to expand BD’s market share and category footprint.

This individual will be called upon to demonstrate leadership in all aspects of the product management/marketing mix for the critical care product lifecycle. This includes working with business unit marketing on the identification, qualification and quantification of new business opportunities as well as marketing and commercial leadership within the US region.

This is a key leadership role for BD UCC and a successful candidate must have strong leadership qualities and competency.

Job Description

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES including the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Develop market competency to become a clinical subject matter expert
  • Lead the development and drive the execution of both the strategy and marketing plan for the critical care portfolio
  • Generate competitive advantage through the identification of unique customer insights through qualitative/quantitative market research
  • Translate market insight into lucrative commercial strategies
  • Effectively manage forecasting and supply chain
  • Illustrate design control and project management expertise
  • Establish relationships with key opinion leaders
  • Strong initiative and accountability to self and others
  • Leverage industry events to maximize investments
  • Establish a brand for yourself as a reliable, highly effective and positive collaborator by management teammates and cross-functional partners

  • Proven leadership experience in leading marketing teams
  • Proven leadership experience in directing successful product launches: including writing and executing the marketing plan.
  • Experience analyzing business opportunities and developing strategies
  • Experience as the primary author on sales collaterals and launch campaigns with expertise in creating compelling messaging and ensure brand consistency
  • Medical device and diagnostics experience preferred
  • Experience entering/developing new markets preferred
  • Analytical ability

  • Presentation skills
  • Ability to build relationships with internal and external customers
  • Excellent organizational and problem-solving skills
  • Attention to details
  • Ability to handle complexity and manage several tasks at one time
  • Computer knowledge and proficiency in software programs such as Excel and PowerPoint
  • Ability to travel 50% of the time


  • BA minimum; MBA preferred
  • Minimum of 8 years of experience in marketing, preferably in the field of medical devices; combined with sales experience is preferred
  • Proven experience in developing and launching new products
  • Experience analyzing business opportunities and developing strategies
  • Experience leading project teams
