Sr. Staff Engineer, System – Electrical

Job Description Summary


A key objective of this role is to lead technology concept innovation and execute product development. This position requires an individual to discover and drive new electromechanical and related product concepts through the New Product Development (NPD) Process. This individual should have significant experience in ideation and in developing solutions through prototyping, manufacturing and then commercialization. The position requires an individual to interact regularly with physicians, nurses or patients in order to assess needs, generate concept and uncover unmet needs within the marketplace by partnering with cross-functional teams. This individual should have experience in launching multiple medical or pharmaceutical products through the NPD process.

Job Description

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES including the following.  Other duties may be assigned.

  • Responsible for uncovering new product concepts and driving those product concepts into the NPD process
  • Responsible for leading key project initiatives and successfully delivering them through the NPD process to a successful commercialization
  • Develop and prototypes new electromechanical product concepts and or features
  • Identify unmet needs and industry trends through literature reviews, patent searchers, and customer interactions
  • Apply a breadth of technical know-how to solve the needs
  • Synthesize fuzzy information and converge diverse inputs into new concepts
  • Define a technical approach and design for the solution
  • Provide insights into technical feasibility and risk (technical rigor)
  • Perform technology landscape, identify and evaluate technologies for incorporation into products
  • Generate intellectual property to support new product ideas and concepts
  • Help develop the business case for any new product concepts
  • Assist in ensuring the QSR compliance of the design control process during product development.
  • Function as an expert and a mentor in NPD teams

  • Strong technical judgement and technical leadership skills
  • Demonstrated creation of new concepts and Intellectual Property
  • Experience with medical devices
  • Creative thinking and unique solutions to solve problems
  • Excellent communication skills, with proven ability to present complex ideas to multiple levels
  • Strong interpersonal and leadership skills
  • Strong facilitation and analytical skills with an open mind
  • Highly motivated self-starter able to achieve results with minimal oversight
  • Strong creative, analytical and problem solving skills required
  • Demonstrated record of innovation and product development
  • Detail oriented and ability to organize large amounts of work and data
  • Strong interpersonal skills required in the areas of verbal and written communications, customer focus, time management, professionalism, coaching, influencing, and team building.


  • BS degree in Electrical or Biomedical Engineering
  • MS degree in Electrical Engineering
  • Knowledge and training of project management, QSR, process development and/or design control processes is required.
  • Nine or more years of experience in medical or pharmaceutical product development.
