Job Description Summary

The Associate Director of Design V&V and Test Method Development will lead a team of engineers, who own development of design verification and validation plan(s), protocol(s), and report(s) for new product development and sustaining engineering projects. Additional responsibilities include development of Test Methods (TM) and Measurement System Analysis (MSA).
He/she will apply “systems” thinking and knowledge of systems, reliability, risk management, standards and design V&V engineering, test method development principles, practices and implementation to support new and sustaining projects. They will establish the vision, develops procedures, and facilitate execution of activities within the team. They will be responsible to drive functional excellence initiatives within their function and continuously improve and expand capabilities within group.
The position is in Franklin Lakes, NJ. The position reports to the Senior Director of Systems Engineering and Design V&V supporting Catheter Care and Medication Delivery (CCMD) within the Medication Delivery Solutions (MDS) business group.

Job Description

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Manage a team of engineers by recruiting, developing and maintaining skills and technical expertise. Conduct effective performance management and development plans.
  • Ensure collaboration within function and peer functions i.e. Systems Engineering, Labs, Design & Development (D&D), Architecture & Innovation (A&I), and Innovation Concept Development.
  • Participate in review and analysis of Vox (voice of customer, business etc.), user needs, design input requirements statements, and systems architecture.
  • Participate and conduct relevant design/project technical reviews.
  • Interface with project-assigned technical leader(s) and program manager(s) to propose and align on resource requirements and technical scope of work.
  • Review deliverables generated by direct reports to ensure high quality and functional best practices implementation.
  • Embrace and exemplify strong team-oriented approach, adoption and execution of Systems, Reliability and Requirements engineering, design V&V, and test method development and drive continuous learning mindset.
  • Propose, prioritize and present functional excellence initiatives. Lead approved functional excellence initiatives to completion.
  • Develop metrics to quantify and subsequently socialize functional excellence initiatives.
  • Build functional excellence in back end of V-model (in terms of integration, characterization, design verification, design validation, test method development) by maintaining extensive knowledge of state-of-the-art principles, theories, and practices.
  • Develop and execute plans to remediate legacy test methods, maintain current test methods, and improve current and new test methods.
  • Build new capabilities in design verification to allow for agility and speed of execution.
  • Build functional capabilities in design validation within R&D.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree in an engineering discipline with minimum of 14 or more years of progressive work experience demonstrating increased competencies
  • Master’s degree in an engineering discipline with minimum of 12 or more years of progressive work experience demonstrating increased competencies.
  • PhD in an engineering discipline with minimum of 10 or more years of progressive work experience demonstrating increased competencies.

DESIRED

  • Medical device industry.
  • Training in Design for Excellence principals preferred.
  • DFSS Green Belt certification is desirable.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

  • Demonstrated experience working on mission critical systems in a regulated environment e.g. Department of Defense, Medical Device, Aerospace.
  • Strong managerial, assessment and team building abilities.
  • Strong grasp of relevant engineering fundamentals and its application.
  • Experience providing direction and technical guidance to relevant functional engineers.
  • Clear thinker and influencer.
  • Strong communication, written, and presentation skills.
  • Demonstrated experience working with requirements to test management tools.
  • Ability to prepare and manage cost center budget and to plan and allocate resources to support new and sustaining projects.
  • Skill in identifying and hiring functional resources with appropriate skill set to support Lifecycle project.
  • Proven ability to present and discuss data, present options (with trade-offs), and clearly communicate recommendations to any level of the organization.
  • Exemplify BD cultural norms in day-to-day interactions.
  • Skill in following HR processes for talent management, performance review, objective setting and recruiting.
  • Proven ability to contribute and interact productively and collaboratively with project teams as a creative, innovative manager.
