Program Overview

The Procurement Development Program's mission is to enhance BD's procurement leadership base by recruiting entry-level associates who aspire to become procurement leaders. BD strives to develop and expose PDP associates to multiple functions and business units while broadening their procurement experience.

Program Features

The Procurement Development Program consists of rotations covering thirty-six months in total. The program is structured to advance proficiency in procurement, leadership skills and competencies that are common across a range of procurement roles fostering growth in preparation for a career in procurement.

1. Typical First Rotation: Analytics COE

  • The PDP Associate will become familiar with essential strategic sourcing and procurement processes through various analytical assignments within categories and functional initiatives—exposure to groups, spend, and suppliers also contribute to knowledge and capability.

2. Typical Second Rotation: Additional Procurement Experience

  • The PDP Associate will actively participate as a commodity team member and develop a deeper understanding of the procurement process and key supplier-facing activities within one or more categories of spend.

3. Typical Third Rotation: Additional Procurement Experience

  • The associate will actively build a platform of transactional experience through transactional buying or process activity utilizing the global Source to pay process.  Other learning opportunities include Risk Management, Operations and continued support of procurement activities.

The PDP Associate will have the opportunity to take on direct responsibility for a specific category and an associated savings target. The associate may participate in supplier negotiations, continuous improvement activities, or lead key strategy implementation projects. The associate will continue to build a capability in strategic sourcing and leadership skills.

Program Qualifications

  • Recent graduate with a BS degree in Procurement/Purchasing or Business Logistics/Supply Chain or related area
  • Minimum 3.25 GPA
  • Demonstrated leadership ability with strong interpersonal, communication, teamwork, negotiation, and quantitative skills; intellectual curiosity and a natural drive for results
  • The desire to learn beyond the area of immediate academic focus
  • Interest in a career in the pharmaceutical/medical technology industry
  • Experience as an intern in the Medical/Pharmaceutical Company preferred
  • Flexibility to relocate during the rotational program as required

To qualify for this position, you must be legally authorized to work in the United States without restriction as to duration.
