Senior Engineer - Materials

Job Description Summary

Reporting to the Associate Director of R&D, the associate in this role will provide technical leadership in Preanalytical Systems (PAS) Technology Development and/or Product Development projects. This associate will be responsible for driving technical excellence in materials science and engineering.

Job Description

  • Utilize materials science and/or engineering principles to develop, identify and evaluate material properties, material processability as well as material-based product performance for medical device applications.
  • Has thorough knowledge in and is responsible for the product development efforts relating to disposable medical devices.
  • Plans and executes tasks and deliver results on schedule.
  • Develops and communicates contingency plans as appropriate.
  • Communicate technical results, critical issues and recommendation to project team and functional manager.
  • Develop and optimize test methods for material characterization and analytical chemistry for product development projects.
  • Support cross-functional development projects, translating ideas and concept through feasibility and prototypes to manufacturing. Investigate critical product/process challenges during technology development, product development and manufacturing.
  • Represents the organization as the prime technical contact and interact with external partners/ suppliers.
  • Participate in supplier qualification for raw material selection and conduct/coordinate tests on raw materials in order to ensure quality and regulatory compliance.
  • Ensure compliance with all local, state, federal, and BD safety regulations, policies, and procedures.   
  • Works under minimal direction toward established long-range goals and objectives.
  • Travel as required. 

EDUCATION:

Ph.D. or M.S. in Materials Science, Polymer Science, Chemical Engineering, or other related field.

LICENSES OR CERTIFICATIONS:

None required

EXPERIENCE:

Ph.D.: 1+ years industry experience

M.S.:  3+ years Industry experience

Special Skills:

  • Working knowledge of material structure-property relationship and material characterization methods. 
  • Demonstrated capabilities with project management.
  • Experience in plastic resin compounding, manufacturing process and high-speed device assembly process.
  • Experience in test method development and validation.
  • Knowledge of statistical analysis is a plus.
  • Experience with handling/processing biological samples (blood, cell, protein, and DNA) is a plus.
  • Demonstrated successful learning agility.Excellent written and verbal communication skills and interpersonal skills. Comfortable with a complex and matrix team environments.
  • Self-motivated with a strong sense of urgency and willing to take hands on work.
