Job Description Summary

Senior Staff Systems Engineer in BD MDS will drive development and provide functional excellence to our systems engineering teams.

Systems Engineers are responsible for using broad technical expertise in medical device development and leadership skills to drive successful product lines. System Engineers aid in translating voice of customer into user and business needs, developing system and product requirements, and establishing systems integration. Additionally, System Engineering identifies hazards and accesses requirements to ensure that the product meets the user/business needs and can be translated into product and process specifications for new hardware and/or software products that effect many systems or for the enhancement of multiple systems.

He/she will be identifying and guiding associates to develop world-class capabilities in analyzing/generating user needs, system/product requirements and hazards for new and existing products. As a technical leader, the incumbent is expected to drive technical excellence through every phase of development, and to lead efforts to identify and mitigate technical risk.

Job Description

  • A strong technical background within Systems Engineering, medical device development, or similar.
  • Deep knowledge of developing regulated products, including associate safety and performance standards
  • Experience in multiple areas within Systems Engineering, requirements management, systems integration and testing, system architectural planning and design, Reliability Engineering, Project Management, and Failure Modes Effects Analyses.
  • Experience with global teams desirable
  • DFSS knowledge and experience
  • Excellent communication skills with the following departments: interdepartmental (with fellow engineers), cross-functional (with Marketing, Clinical Representatives, Engineers, Test Engineers, and Quality Engineers)
  • A track record of accomplishment in developing-launching-maintaining successful medical products.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Biomedical Engineering or similar
  • Minimum of 10 years of post-educational professional experience  

Desired Qualifications: 

  • Graduate degree (MS or Phd) in Mechanical Engineering, Biomedical Engineering or similar 
  • 15+ years of post-educational experience in Medical Device Design
