Job Description Summary

The BD Medical segment has an exciting opportunity for a highly talented and passionate individual that shares our commitment to improve healthcare through innovations in technology and product development. The successful candidate will be responsible for leading new material development programs. The ideal candidate will have expert knowledge in the formulation, design, and manufacturing of elastomers. Working with cross-functional teams, he/she will apply a deep understanding of the structure-property relationships for these complex systems to deliver innovative products that address current and future clinical needs. The candidate is expected to successfully drive projects from concept to manufacturing. This includes taking strong and clear accountability for program success.

Job Description

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Conceive and develop novel elastomer formulations including cured rubber systems and thermoplastic elastomers (TPEs)
  • Ensure technical excellence in the design of elastomeric components
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to develop next-gen materials and processes for new products
  • Implement technology transfer from research and development to manufacturing
  • Identify and establish working relationships with external technology partners
  • Ensure delivery of innovative and cost-effective solutions that meet customer needs
  • Effectively communicate, orally and written, project progress within the team and to senior leadership
  • Demonstrate agility and action when facing change and uncertainty while instilling confidence.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Minimum B.S. Degree in Polymer Science, Chemical Engineering, Materials Science, or related field (M.S. or Ph.D. preferred)
  • Minimum 8 years industrial experience in materials development
  • Working experience in elastomer formulation and/or compounding
  • Working experience in elastomer manufacturing processes
  • Proficient in materials design with experience translating concepts into products that meet customer needs and performance requirements
  • Track record of innovation
  • Demonstrated success in solving complex technical problems using a systematic engineering approach (e.g., DoE, DFSS, SixSigma, etc.)
  • Strong project management skills with ability to manage multiple projects
  • Ability to lead cross-functional teams and collaborate with associates
  • Experience in pharmaceutical or medical device industry preferred
  • Willingness to travel globally up to 20%
