Job Description Summary

The R&D Staff Engineer in TMD/V&V (Test Method Development, Design Verification, and Design Validation) will impact health care and the CCMD (Catheter Care and Medication Delivery) business group by driving commercialization of new products and design changes for current products through development, qualification, and launch phases. Ensuring timely completion of project and business goals, the candidate is responsible for planning, designing, building, and qualifying measurement systems and methods necessary to evaluate product safety, efficacy, performance and compliance; creating, leading and executing strategies for design verification and design validation.

The candidate will contribute to building organizational effectiveness through creating, leveraging and sharing best practices; leading and mentoring others; seeking and providing training; driving technical and workflow innovation.

Job Description

Project Responsibilities

While maintaining a Customer Focus, responsibilities include (but are not limited to) planning through all project phases, strategy and execution of measurement system development / qualification, Design Verification and Design Validation.  This requires:

  • Creating, editing, and interpreting technical drawings
  • Technical writing (protocols, reports, work instructions, presentations, etc.) and effective verbal communication
  • Expert application of engineering principles for design / analysis
  • Statistical analysis and sample plan development
  • Innovation
  • Process effectiveness
  • Continuous Learning


The successful candidate will demonstrate and cultivate:

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical or Biomedical Engineering and 8+ years of experience in medical device or other regulated industry OR Advanced Degree in Mechanical or Biomedical Engineering and 6+ years of experience in medical device or other regulated industry
  • Track record of technical problem solving and effective product development. 
  • Design controls expertise
  • Proficient in statistical methods / tools
  • Proficient in solid mechanics / mechanics of materials
  • Familiarity with traditional and modern fabrication techniques

Desired Qualifications

  • Exposure to structural analysis and simulation / mathematical modeling
  • Electromechanical systems
  • DFSS Training / Certifications
  • Solidworks Experience
