Summary of Position with General Responsibilities:
Manage purchased materials within an MRP environment to ensure the timely delivery of high quality materials, while utilizing innovative and proactive procurement strategies to continuously improve the supply chain, in support of all financial and inventory goals. Serves as a backup to the Purchasing Manager.
Essential Job Functions:
Work closely with the Purchasing Manager to understand departmental goals, projects, and reporting requirements to serve as a backup.
Work within an MRP environment to ensure material availability for production requirements.
Communicate with suppliers regularly regarding purchase order requirements.
Maintain a high level of data integrity to ensure accurate supply chain information.
Actively manage inventory dollars to ensure appropriate levels.
Develop supplier partnerships and participate in the Supplier Management process both locally and at the corporate level.
Establish and administer formal Supply Agreements and/or Supplier Managed Inventory Programs.
Negotiate the best quality and delivery at the most reasonable cost, consistent with accepted standards.
Manage Supplier Performance in the areas of delivery and quality to support the plant goals for On Time Delivery and Zero Backorder.
Understand GMP regulations, especially as they relate to Materials Control in the manufacturing environment.
Identify and implement Continuous Improvement opportunities such as cost reductions, quality improvements, and supplier consolidations/reductions.
Lead and/or participate in cross-functional teams (cost improvement, new product introductions, quality improvement, etc.).
Assist and/or lead in the CR (Change Request) process.
Participate in new product introductions and project teams.
Other duties as assigned.
Basic Qualifications:
Strong functional knowledge of Microsoft Excel, Inventory, and Purchasing systems.
Working knowledge of MRP/ERP systems.
Must possess leadership qualities, as well as the ability to influence stakeholders.
Strong analytical and Project Management skills, with the ability to work effectively in a cross-functional team environment.
Must demonstrate strong communication, interpersonal, and presentation skills.
Preferred Qualifications:
Certified in Production and Inventory Management (CPIM/CPM).
Advanced skills in Microsoft Excel
Education and Experience:
Bachelor’s Degree with at least 8 years of experience in Purchasing and Supplier Management, with at least 5 years in a manufacturing environment.
Physical Demands:
Regular typing and computer work performed daily.
Requires occasional light physical effort (e.g., prolonged standing, sitting, bending, stooping reaching and/or lifting of light items - up to 5 lbs.).
Work Environment:
General office environment. May require some exposure to chemicals used in manufacturing processes, requiring some precaution.
Some minor inconvenience or discomfort occasionally present in the work situation (moderate noise, disagreeable odors, etc.).
Training Requirements:
On-the-job, SOP’s required for position, and GMP.
