Job Description Summary


The Manufacturing Engineering Technician will be primarily responsible for sustaining and optimizing process automation equipment, electrical, vision, and control systems. This position will report directly to a Manufacturing Engineer within Operations.

The associate must have a strong passion for working on the production floor, be hands on, and drive preventative and predictive maintenance programs and continuous improvement.  The associate must be able to communicate and work well within all levels of the organization and provide technical leadership to production and maintenance employees.  The associate must also be safety conscience and abide by all plant rules.

Job Description


This position will be responsible for the following.

  • Ensure process and equipment is safely producing high quality parts without unplanned down time.
  • Support of all maintenance and project needs required from value stream teams or engineering (electrical, electronic, and mechanical).
  • Become the local engineering technician subject matter expert for all automation, robotic, vision, and controls systems.
  • Program, sustain, and troubleshoot all automation equipment, controls, and fixtures. Build, repair, and replace equipment, components, and fixtures as required. Support all general equipment, fixtures, and processes as needed.
  • Support and implement process capability and continuous improvement through lean six sigma methodology and projects. Support OEE, TPM and root cause analysis efforts.
  • Support and implement preventative and predictive maintenance programs.
  • Communicates and maintains a favorable rapport with team leaders, engineering, maintenance, and production associates.
  • Ensures new equipment adheres to specifications and timing.
  • Maintains documentation (prints, manuals, programs, etc)
  • Works with others in value stream team and or at vendors or suppliers to review issues and to develop solutions.
  • Contributes to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed.
  • Provides technical leadership for assigned processes and equipment.
  • Backup for other technicians where service and support is needed. May require working off shift or weekends.
  • May be on-call for emergencies.


  • Formal Technical / Associates degree in:  Automation or Robotics or Electrical or electromechanical or related degree OR 5+ years of experience supporting and maintaining automation equipment
  • PLC’s programming and troubleshooting
  • Rockwell automation Software (Studio 5000, RsLogix500, etc.)
  • Cognex Vision Systems and/or Keyence Vision Systems
  • Servo Motion Controls System
  • Proven successful experience with maintenance and troubleshooting of automated machinery.  This includes maintenance and troubleshooting of mechanical, pneumatic, and electrical systems, all integrated within automated machinery.
  • Development and/or execution of preventive and predictive maintenance routines for automated equipment.
  • Well-developed interpersonal and teamwork skills
  • Ability to read and understand mechanical, electrical, and electronic drawing and schematic diagrams


  • Robots: FANUC, Denso, Motoman, and Yushin (strong experience with pick an place applications)
  • Basic programming skills associated with robots and plcs
  • Experience with Allen-Bradley, Parker, and Fanuc PLCs
  • Lean and Six Sigma experience especially in SPC, OEE, TPM, and 5S
  • Ability to work with minimal direction/supervision
