Job Summary:

Integrally engaged in all aspects of preclinical laboratory animal study program for the BDI Peripheral Intervention business unit.  This scope requires deep knowledge of the defined product portfolio and intended clinical applications; including interventional radiology, oncology and vascular procedures.  The successful candidate with have the ability to collaborate with both Clinical Medical Affairs and Veterinary Medical Sciences on animal model selection and design based upon review of precedents in the literature and within prior Regulatory strategies (PI portfolio and predicate products if any).  This position with work across the BU and CPDT organizations to drive study protocol development, study coordination, implementation/execution, data analysis/interpretation and report writing.  This role will be responsible for multiple projects at a given time; and interface with MA, VMS as well as R&D teams.  This role will also act as the Sponsor Study Director for external contract studies.

Qualifications Requirements:

  • MS in veterinary/animal science, physiology, anatomy or related field, with minimum of 5 years of hands on experience required.

  • Prior experience in research involving oncology, cardiovascular, endovascular or surgical models, with preference for experience with interventional procedures (oncology, vascular, radiology). 

  • Candidates with SRS certification from the Academy of Surgical Research or Registered Veterinary Technicians would also be potential candidates with appropriate experience. 

Preferred:

  • DVM or PhD preferred. 

  • Ph.D. with background in animal science, physiology or related field; and with a minimum of 2 years of hands-on experience in large animal research models (academic, industrial or CRO laboratory settings). 

Experience:

  • Prior work with large research animal models within industry preferred, as well as prior experience as a Principal Investigator and/or Study Director.  

  • Knowledge of comparative anatomy and physiology strongly preferred, along with knowledge of relevant data analysis/statistics. 

  • Knowledge and ability to work within a preclinical Quality System is required, and US or OECD Good Laboratory Practice (GLP) experience a plus.  

  • The successful candidate will possess excellent organizational and problem-solving skills, and oral and written communication skills. 

  • Ability to work across organizations and functional levels will be critical, for example, business unit clinicians and clinical Key Opinion Leaders, Veterinary Medical staff, study technical staff, vivarium technical staff; as well as potential external CRO organizations. 

  • Some travel will be required to support out-sourced studies at approved CROs.
