Position Summary

Growth for the Vascular Access Devices Business Group is heavily dependent on market development, which requires robust technical and clinical expertise across a large and diverse global associate base along with customer training.  Success will require elevating the capabilities of BD associates in all regions of the world, and on developing vascular access device placement proficiency for clinicians globally. Both internal and external training must be developed in a scalable manner that leverages the breadth of the company.

The Global Training Manager for VAD will develop and execute strategies creating tools and programs to facilitate the training and development of BD associates as it pertains to commercializing VAD products and solutions.  This individual will be the primary point of contact for regional marketing, sales and training teams to access and leverage global content and tools related to training. The Global Training Manager will also work with product managers within VAD to develop customer training that is efficient, effective, and compelling and that has a consistent look and feel.  

The position will report to the Platform Leader, Vascular Access Technologies.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities
The following duties and responsibilities are intended to be representative of the work performed by the incumbent(s) in this position and are not all-inclusive.  The omission of a specific duty or responsibility will not preclude it from the position.

  • Work with global platform leaders to fully understand the business strategies across VAD

  • Work closely with regional VAD commercial sales and marketing teams to understand their needs for training on products, solutions and clinical practice

  • Work closely with VAD global platform teams to incorporate training plans into global strategies and to develop customer facing training for all VAD products

  • Leverage available BD resources and systems for training tools and content delivery

  • Investigate, understand and assess best practices in training tools, systems and approaches beyond the medical device industry.  Include a particular focus on scalable and remote training approaches (e.g., AI tools, webinars, QR codes linked to training videos, etc.).

  • Develop scalable platforms for the delivery of content required to maximize the execution of VAD strategies, with a focus on market development and account conversions.  

  • Work closely with subject matter experts and marketing resources to develop relevant training content (as needed)

  • Understand the role and need for in-person training and remote training tools, and work with VAD platform leaders to coordinate the global delivery of each.  As needed, may be called on to delivery portions of training to certain regions

  • Work closely with regional training teams to leverage existing tools and platforms

  • Work closely with regional training teams to coordinate the local delivery of content 

  • Train regional trainers on tools available (as needed), partner with regional teams to build training infrastructure appropriate for each individual region (e.g., tools, processes, and resources)

  • Create and present business cases for additional funding for tools and platforms (as needed)

  • Manage responsibilities within the allotted budget

  • Comply with all corporate policies and external regulations

Qualifications, Experience and Required Skills


  • BA or BS

  • 5+ years experience working in medical devices or pharmaceutical sales, marketing and/or training

  • Educational or professional background in human development or training

  • Familiarity and understanding of internal and external medical device regulatory requirements and process

  • Cultural awareness and ability to work across regional and organizational boundaries

  • Ability to work independently; self-motivated

  • Flexibility to travel globally 30% of the time

  • Strong collaborative mindset, interpersonal skills and ability to work in a matrix organizational structure (e.g., ability to influence teams not under direct control in order to accomplish objectives)

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills

  • Strong preparation, organization and project management skills

  • Basic computer and technological skills including Microsoft Office


  • MBA

  • Knowledge of VAD product portfolio

  • Ability to personally deliver clinical and sales training to commercial organizations

Physical Requirements:

  • In an office or training environment, the individual may be required to sit or stand for extended periods of time and perform general office functions that may include bending, stooping and reaching.  The role may occasionally require lifting up to 25 lbs.
