The Sales Tax Accountant will report directly to the Indirect Tax Lead. This position will assist in the day-to-day operations of the Sales and Use Tax Group. The responsibilities include, but are not limited to, completing compliance responsibilities in multiple states and businesses, completing return filings, ensuring compliance within established administrative policies, state regulations and acceptable accounting practices, provide customer service to internal and external customers, evaluate complete assignments for conformance with applicable policies, regulations and tax laws, assisting external auditors and third party consultants with responsibility for state audits.
The responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Compile source data for sales and use tax and property tax returns and ensure it ties to the general ledger for all BD legal entities.
Complete return filings for gross receipts and sales and use tax.
Review sales and use tax and property tax returns completed by third parties for accuracy and completeness.
Pull and request exemption certificates as needed.
Ensure compliance within established administrative policies, state regulations and acceptable accounting practices.
Communicate professionally and provide excellent customer service to internal and external customers.
Respond to GMB emails within 48 hours.Evaluate assignments completed for conformance with applicable policies, regulations and tax laws.
Identify and implement process improvements in the Indirect Tax department.
Complete all assigned compliance activity in a timely manner and adhere to deadlines.
Maintain assigned GL account reconciliations. Resolve reconciliation items within 30 days.
Assist and complete assigned special projects.
Assist with sales tax audit requests and appeals, working with business units, customers, third party consultants and state auditors.
Perform tax research and document tax positions.
Assist with review process of purchase invoices for use tax.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications:
B.S. in Accounting and/or Finance
3+ years’ experience in Sales and Use tax
Strong Microsoft Excel & Word skills (VLOOKUP, Pivot Tables, Charts)
Excellent Analytical and Problem Solving skills
Excellent Communication Skills
ERP Experience
Preferred Qualifications:
3+ years experience in Sales and Use tax compliance and audit defense
Certified Public Accountant
Understanding of GAAP Accounting
Knowledge of SOX controls & compliance
SAP or JDE experience
Business Intelligence/Business Warehouse expertise
Sabrix or Vertex
Lean Six Sigma Certified
