Reagent Manufacturing Manager

Job Description Summary

Reporting to the BD Biosciences Manufacturing Unit 1 Leader, the Reagent Manufacturing Manager is responsible for leading the Tissue Culture, Antibody Purification, Lab Support, and Vivarium teams in a fully engaged manner to achieve desired outcomes. This role involves providing leadership and direction to each team member, potentially supervising front-line leaders and Technical Leaders. Additionally, they will spearhead change management initiatives aimed at reducing costs, streamlining procedures, and meeting business objectives.
The Regent Manufacturing Manager will ensure compliance with BD quality systems, policies, procedures and best practices, as well as compliance with all local, state, federal and BD safety regulations. Regular, punctual attendance is essential. Proficiency in reading, writing, and conversing in English is required. The position must also be committed to upholding BD Values.

Responsibilities

  • Responsible to deliver upon SQDC target, operational and functional goals for assigned teams.

  • Implement BD Excellence components and programs within the manufacturing unit.

  • Identify and implement process improvements, driving change management initiatives to reduce costs, streamline procedures, and achieve business objectives.

  • Oversee capital expenditures, including forecasting, purchasing, installing, and qualifying new equipment within budget.

  • Develop and write controlled documents and SOPs, maintaining high-quality standards to meet ISO manufacturing requirements, including validation protocols and procedures for processes and equipment.

  • Manage staffing and training plans within the department.

  • Collaborate with Production Planning to establish production schedules and monitor departmental performance against the schedule.

  • Work closely with cross-functional teams, including Research and Development and Quality Assurance.

  • Monitor production metrics to ensure departmental goals are achieved and effectively communicate these metrics and progress to associates and management.

  • Address technical questions, troubleshoot issues, and support root cause analysis for product failures.

  • Collaborate with other departments to escalate complex issues and contribute to product improvements.

  • Promote an inclusive work environment.

  • Conduct annual performance reviews and ensure everyone on the team has an active development plan.

  • Conduct regular 1:1s with each team member to provide regular, timely, and specific feedback to associates and foster professional growth.

  • Foster a safe work environment by offering recommendations for maintaining workplace safety and actively participating in Environmental Health and Safety programs. Address corrective actions whenever hazards are identified and promptly resolve any safety issues or incidents.

  • Other duties as required to support the needs of the business.

Education and Experience:

  • BA/BS Degree in Life Sciences, Industrial management, Business, Engineering or a related field.

  • Minimum 7 years of life sciences, biotechnology, pharmaceutical or diagnostic manufacturing operations experience required.

  • Minimum 3 years of people leading experience required.

Knowledge and Skills

  • Possesses in-depth expertise in related fields, such as cell culture management and antibody purification, and leverages this knowledge to enhance effectiveness and provide technical guidance to employees in their respective areas.

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities.

  • Experience with automated systems, AKTA systems desired

  • Decision Making Ability - Proficient

  • Analytical/Troubleshooting / Problem Solving - Proficient

  • Safety & Ergonomics Expertise – Basic

  • Project Management - Proficient 

  • Quality Systems Knowledge – Proficient

  • Computer Skills / Microsoft Office - Proficient

  • Financial Acumen – Basic

  • Lean Manufacturing Principles – Proficient

  • ISO 13485 and ISO 9001 – Proficient

Physical Demands

  • May need to lift approximately 10lbs and climb a 2-step ladder

Work Environment

  • Onsite - Standard office setting

  • Manufacturing Floor: low light environment, Controlled Non-Classified Cleanrooms

  • Regular presence on the manufacturing floor
