Senior Manager, Software Quality Engineering

Job Description Summary

The test manager position is responsible for managing test team members and the technical leadership of testing our hosted and on premise software products. The test manager creates and implements a vision for testing as a primary component of defect identification and resolution with a heavy focus on tooling and automation.

Job Description

The ideal candidate is a professional who is, or has been, a test manager for a company that develops enterprise-class software applications, has led teams of 10+ test engineers directly reporting to the candidate, with an experience in managing geographically dispersed teams.

Specific Duties, Activities, and Responsibilities:

  • Define, promote and implement the strategic direction of test automation and an overall approach to testing within the department.
  • Manage a group of test engineers: recruiting, performance expectations, coaching, mentoring, goals & priorities setting and career development.
  • Drive process improvement in the organization to reduce the overall defect rate and increase testing efficiency.
  • Create best practices and departmental guidelines for testing methods in close collaboration with peer test managers.
  • Define, measure and communicate key metrics to assess the overall effectiveness of the test engineering group.
  • Create repeatable methods to assess, measure and communicate the overall quality of a project.
  • Facilitate collaboration between software engineering, business stakeholders, project management and quality engineering groups.
  • Responsible for overall quality of the products

Min Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s Degree or Higher in an engineering discipline
  • 10+ years’ experience testing on web enabled, data centric products
  • 2+ years’ experience developing automation routines and 2+ years’ experience in writing complex SQL queries.
  • 3+ years’ experience of management of direct reports
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to lead team towards operational objectives
  • Experience with Agile software development methodologies is essential.
  • Experience with scripting and automation languages and toolsets (Selenium, Coded UI or other)
  • Experience working in a regulated environment is a plus
