Job Description

Department Overview-

This position is located in the Indianapolis Indiana area.

The BD GCS Professional Services Department manages, plans and coordinates the implementation of the BD Medication Management Solutions.  Teams are assigned to customer projects and accounts based on regional/national organizational structures.  Project teams are comprised of internal and external cross-functional, multidisciplinary members working in synergy toward the common goal of a successful, on-time implementation.  Activities include project management governance, product/solution implementation, workflow assessment, system design, configuration and validation, integration engineering functions and general customer relationship and partnering activities.  In addition to customer-facing responsibilities, this department is also responsible for many backend business functions including revenue forecasting and recognition, equipment logistics (including ordering, customer confirmation and return authorizations), implementation methodologies and quality system requirements.

Purpose

The Technician, Rowa Implementation is a newly created and key position within the US Professional Service business. This position is responsible for implementation and service of BD Rowa systems. This position will independently provide efficient and effective services to assigned BD Rowa customers in a timely manner, including but not limited to, installation, assembly, customer training, troubleshooting, maintenance and on-going break/fix support.

Domestic and limited international travel required. 

Specific Duties, Activities and Responsibilities - % of time

Technical (80%) - Installation, assembly, troubleshooting, maintenance and on-going break/fix support.

Mentoring / Other duties as assigned (10%)

Project Management (5%) Meetings, Planning, communication, documentation

Administrative activities (5%)

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Technical

  • Highly skilled in both electrical and mechanical aptitude.  Able to perform detailed and precision mechanical installations/alignments.  Able to operate on electrical installations up to 220/240 VAC
  • Able to read electrical schematics
  • Able to perform basic software investigation
  • Basic networking and IT infrastructure knowledge
  • Mechanical installation following highly critical tolerances
  • Provide advanced problem solving, troubleshooting and system consultation as needed for client
  • Perform upgrades to BD Rowa software and hardware
  • Experience with PC / PLC controlled systems
  • Experience in Field Service practices
  • Demonstrated analytical thinking and knowledge in drive technology, electromechanical and electronic devices
  • Monitoring and improving machine performance based on documented standards

Communication

  • Provide written documentation to appropriate team members and customer
  • Establish and nurture rapport with customers that is conducive to a long-term business relationship
  • Follow documented practices for reporting product issues

Administrative

  • Order equipment and supplies
  • Maintain accurate inventory controls for onsite customer spare parts
  • Complete weekly logs, expense reports, project plans, etc.
  • Maintain Account Summaries
  • Complete training and develop competency in two BD Rowa product lines
  • Provide accurate and timely documentation that details field activity (FSR's), expenses, time distribution and other information as required

Education or Equivalent:

  • Associate Degree preferably in electrical or mechanical engineering and a minimum 3 years of work experience

Experience or Equivalent:

  • Analytical thinking and knowledge of troubleshooting on electromechanical and electronic devices
  • Knowledge of Windows based operating systems
  • Knowledge of PLC and computer-controlled machines
  • Knowledge in motion controls (servo drive, step motor…)
  • Knowledge in industrial bus technology like CAN-Bus
  • IT experience supporting both proprietary and standard applications and basic network knowledge
  • Customer-facing, field service experience required
  • Excellent time management skills required
  • SAP experience desired
  • SalesForce.com experience desired
  • Microsoft Office Suite knowledge required

Physical/Mental Requirements:

  • This position involves pushing, pulling, stooping, climbing ladders and lifting up to 70 pounds

Other:

  • Travel may range from 60% - 80%, overnight travel.  Position requires flexible working hours, including some nights and weekends.
  • Must be able to clearly communicate, thoroughly document and demonstrate ability to overcome project risk factors, project timeline delays and escalated customer and project issues
  • Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license and meet BD's auto safety standards
  • Upon hire must provide proof of and maintain current immunizations and obtain additional immunizations appropriate for the facility which enables access to customer sites in order to perform essential job functions. Proofs must include: Hepatitis B, Influenza (current year), MMR (mumps, measles, rubella), Varicella (chicken pox) Annual TB/PPD (skin test), Tetanus/Diphtheria/Pertussis.
