BD Biosciences success is in part determined by the level of payment and customer access, government policies and priorities, and the level of public funding made available for research purposes—all of which require a Market Access Associate Director to ensure these factors are pro-actively and closely managed to head off risks and leverage opportunities.  

This individual will be an integral part of an increasingly important global core competency for BD.  We employ a team of professionals who work closely with our business and country leaders to advance policies, shape payment pathways and identify optimal strategic and tactical reimbursement plans that ensure timely access to medical technologies that improve healthcare delivery and patient outcomes.  Career development opportunities are available through functional, business, and regional roles that are being created to meet the demands of the increasingly complex health care systems.

Under the direction of the Global Platform Leader, Clinical Solutions for BD Biosciences and the Senior Director, Product Reimbursement and Payment Policy, the Market Access Associate Director is responsible for integrating market access, and policy insights into the BD Biosciences worldwide business strategy. In addition, developing and advancing advocacy strategies with payers and policymakers to drive favorable customer adoption, access and reimbursement for BD Biosciences products, both clinical and research solutions, on the market and in the pipeline.

The Market Access Associate Director will represent the BD Biosciences business world wide working closely with commercial organizations’ leadership to develop and implement market access strategies and related tools that drive access and sales across key regions.  The position is responsible for integrating global reimbursement insights into business strategy and for developing strategic and tactical plans that will create sustainable revenue opportunities for products and solutions prior to launch as well as those already on the market.  The Market Access Associate Director will also be responsible for internal education around market shaping concepts and market access workshops, and for contributing to the ongoing refinement of these tools.

In order to ensure favorable market access to the portfolio, the Associate Director will develop comprehensive strategies with counterparts in other functions as part of Strategic Value and Evidence Teams, which include participation from Commercial, Regulatory Affairs, Health Economics and Outcomes Research, Medical Affairs and R&D. The Market Access Associate Director will spend approximately 80% of his/her time on US responsibilities and 20% on the rest of the world.

Responsibilities

  • Lead efforts to harness the company’s global market access capabilities to ensure WW business strategies are grounded in payment system realities
  • Partner with WW Platform Leaders (clinical and research) to align on top priorities by platform.
  • Provide strategic insight into product design and marketing strategies in partnership with new product innovation teams and allied functions
  • Conduct internal education on market access to elevate awareness of the value of payer insights
  • Integrate payer perspectives and knowledge of reimbursement pathways of key markets into clinical and economic evidence generation plans
  • Optimize payment for new and innovative products in launch countries
  • Provide the market access and reimbursement analysis for new product generation (both organic and new business development opportunities)
  • Validate access strategy feasibility with Medical and Health Economics and Outcomes Research (HEOR) capabilities
  • Support HEOR activities in cooperation with HEOR resources as bandwidth allows
  • Support country leaders in defining payment policy and product reimbursement strategies to realize the financial goals of BD Biosciences
  • Assess market access requirements for products across the Biosciences portfolio
  • Identify trends in payment policies and pathways that create opportunities and risks to inform business strategy
  • Lead the development of the global market access and reimbursement strategic and tactical plans for products within Biosciences
  • Work closely with key regions to tailor global strategies to fit local reimbursement needs and partner with regional and local access leaders to create and implement local strategic and tactical reimbursement plans
  • Provide coverage and coding expertise for all relevant products
  • Foster partnerships with public and private payers as well as key trade and patient advocacy organizations relevant to Biosciences
  • Lead Strategic Value and Access Team
  • In partnership with key cross functional members, (Commercial, Regulatory Affairs, HEOR, Medical Affairs), lead the development of global value and access strategy including health economic evidence plans and studies to support market access and reimbursement plans in target country/regions

Qualifications

  • BA/BS required. Advanced Degree preferred
  • 2-4 years of Market Access experience strongly preferred, preferably with global responsibility
  • 5+ years of experience in the health care industry strongly preferred
  • Proven track record of contributing to growth through shaping favorable payment pathways and securing reimbursement status for health care products through the creation of global strategic and tactical market access plans
  • Thorough understanding of market access and reimbursement considerations for both US as well as in key Global markets
  • Familiarity with assessing HEOR considerations for commercial success
  • Demonstrated experience designing and interpreting health economic and outcomes research studies
  • Demonstrated experience interacting with diverse payers to achieve market access success preferably in both US and global markets
  • Ability to communicate effectively and lead without direct line authority
  • Analytical, problem solving, persuasive ability to develop and implement strategic plans
  • Excellent oral and written communication capabilities that have been leveraged with external customers, internal stakeholders and senior leadership
