This role based in Medical & Scientific Affairs at BDB is an outwardly facing role expected to interact primarily with customers and scientific investigators around the world.

The successful candidate will have an extensive background in cell biology as well as the hands-on use of advanced cytomic, genomic, and flow cytometry tools. Preferably, the candidate will he/herself be a well-known contributor to the literature of cell biology and/or immunology.

By interacting with customers and understanding their laboratory workflows the Director of Research will be able to provide advice and consultation toward the solution of methodological research issues in advanced cell biology and immunology.

This position is expected to contribute to the overall business strategy and direction of the organization. In addition, this position will help lead the market education on the use of multicolor flow cytometry and our genomics applications and products in research settings for both external and internal customers. He/she will be experienced in conducting peer level interactions with key opinion leaders and collaborating with strategic business and academic partners, for the purpose of developing and implementing research collaborations needed to support the overall business strategy. The Director of Research will be expected to develop strategic relationships with key external customers to further advance the recognition, utility, and supporting evidence of BDB products.

This highly visible role within BDB will also engage cross-business and at the Enterprise level within Scientific and Medical Affairs. Included within this scope of internal interactions will be collaborations with the Applications Group which will be responsible for producing reagent panels and workflow specifications to enable the co-creation opportunities established by the Director of Research.

The daily experience of actively engaging with customers will enhance the customer-centered orientation of the function and enable the communication of feedback to the organization to enable product improvements.

The Director will be expected to technically support BDB marketing activities at industry conventions as requested. In addition, technical support of the field support teams will be required.

This role will also be a member of the Research Platform LT and provide vital scientific input to plans and projects originating within the BDB Research Platform business.

This position will report to the Vice President of Medical and Scientific Affairs and will require relocation to BDB headquarter site in San Jose.

Qualifications

  • Advanced degree: PhD, MD or both
  • Minimum 10 years’ experience in the Life Sciences industry
  • Demonstrated success in team environments with a proven ability to influence without authority
  • Proven track record of driving life science innovation as indicated by publications, patents, funding history and new product launches.
  • Strong communication and presentation skills with an ability to translate complex biological concepts into actionable business options
