Job Description Summary

The Business Development group at BD Biosciences (BDB) complements the business’s internal product development capabilities by identifying and acquiring innovative technologies and products from external partners. These partners include universities, research institutions, and other companies, both large and small, in all parts of the world. Business Development works closely with multiple functions across BDB to evaluate potential partnering opportunities, making sure that those selected will be well aligned with the business’s strategic, financial, and operational goals.

The Senior Manager Business Development will support the Global Director of Business Development and New Technologies at BDB with all activities necessary to bring new technologies and products into BDB for development and commercialization, from initial identification of promising scientific innovations, through rigorous internal evaluation and business case development, structuring and negotiation of business agreements with external partners (working with the Transactions group), and on-going relationship management.

Job Description

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Seek out new scientific innovations in BDB’s key focus areas, including life science research reagents and applications, flow cytometry assays and instrumentation (research and clinical), and single cell genomics. This may involve attending scientific conferences, reading scientific publications, internet-based research, and interacting with academic technology transfer offices and Business Development groups at other companies.
  • Work with other BDB functions (R&D, Marketing, Medical/Scientific Affairs, Finance, Legal, IP, etc.) to evaluate the benefits and risks of bringing new technologies into BDB for development and commercialization.
  • Build financial business cases demonstrating the potential value of new technologies and associated products.
  • Create and deliver presentations to BDB management to support recommendations to acquire new technologies (or justification not to move forward with a particular partnership).
  • Work with BDB Transactions and Legal groups to structure and negotiate business agreements. These may include confidentiality, material transfer, collaboration, in-license, out-license, development, and supply agreements.
  • Manage long-term relationships with external collaborators and other partners.
  • Represent Business Development on cross-functional BDB teams, including platform, program, and strategy teams.
