About the role:
Senior Process Engineer I
BD is currently looking for an experienced R&D senior process engineer with expertise in surface chemistry and bioconjugation to be part of the bead process engineering team to support the BD Rhapsody™ singe-cell multiomics platform. As a senior process engineer you will sustain, improve and develop oligo conjugated magnetic beads for single-cell multiomics assays.
Key responsibilities will include:
Implement design control and optimization tools to develop and improve manufacturing process for oligo-conjugated magnetic beads
Perform and develop new characterization tests to evaluate performance of the beads for single-cell assays
Evaluate downstream impacts of material or process changes by performing experiments and developing models for predictive performance
Design and perform experiments using BD Rhapsody platform, and analyze and interpret single-cell sequencing data
Collaborate with and evaluate third-party vendors, and lead technical meetings with vendors
Work with Operations team to transfer and improve the bead manufacturing process
Generate SOPs, process development reports, technology transfers and batch records
Participate in functional and cross-functional training to advance technical capabilities
Education and experience required:
PhD in chemical engineering, biochemical engineering, bioengineering or a related discipline, or Masters degree plus 5 years of experience, or Bachelors degree plus 7 years of experience
Familiarity with process engineering and Design of Experiments (DOE)
Experience working with particles or solid surfaces and bioconjugation
Strong verbal and written communication skills
Effective communication with cross-functional teams
Experience in design and evaluation of QC tests
Good understanding of biostatistics and statistical packages
Experience working efficiently with large datasets
Demonstrated analytical and problem-solving skills
Demonstrated ability to keep accurate and complete laboratory records and logs
Experience in the life-sciences, biotechnology industry supporting process development, design, scale-up, improvement and validation is preferred
Nice to have:
Experience with bead manufacturing
Experience with single-cell RNA-seq assays or other NGS assays
Experience with primer design and developing PCR-based assays
Familiarity with flow cytometry
