We are seeking a skilled and enthusiastic Flow Cytometrist at BD Biosciences (BDB) in San Jose, CA.  The Sr. Scientist will play a key role within the R&D organization.  We are seeking a candidate who can bring their experience of flow cytometry to assist in the development of new clinical reagents.  Using independent judgment to adapt and modify standard reagent development techniques to solve difficult reagent challenges.  Executing experiments independently and evaluating, discussing, presenting and explaining data of moderate to high complexity.  Working relatively independently to determine best approaches to solutions. The candidate will bring a strong continuous improvement mindset to reduce development timelines and streamline technology transfers from R&D to operations.

Primary Job Responsibilities:

  • Independently design experimental approaches to assess viability and feasibility of new reagents.

  • Prepare technical reports, summaries, protocols, and analyses of R&D projects.

  • Maintain strong understanding of state-of-the-art science and technology development in the industry.

  • Provide technical expertise and support related to flow cytometry testing for reagent troubleshooting. 

  • Plan and/or participate in sustaining, troubleshooting and risk assessment activities.

  • Effectively coordinate with other functions associated with product launch including Regulatory Affairs, Quality, Marketing, Manufacturing, Business Development, Documentation.

  • Write and review standard operating procedures and policies for the department.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in Life Sciences.

  • Minimum of 5 years' related experience in a clinical research setting, clinical/diagnostic laboratory, or pharmaceutical/biotechnology R&D environment.

  • Applicants should have current knowledge of flow cytometry and immunology.

  • Proven experience in process excellence in an R&D environment.

  • Extensive hands-on experience operating and troubleshooting flow cytometers.

  • Experience with sample prep and experiment design.

  • Experience training bench-level personnel and leading projects.

  • Excellent listening, written, and oral communication skills.

  • Knowledge of clinical and/or research laboratory environment and quality control procedures is preferred.

Desired Qualifications: 

  • Demonstrated ability of continuous learning is highly desired.

  • Knowledge of Flow Cytometry instruments and applications is a must, experience with BD instruments is desired.

  • Solid expertise in immunology and cell biology through a combination of education and experience is preferred.

  • Experience in clinical product development is desired but not required.

  • Strong and proven product development experience and knowledge is preferred.

  • Knowledge of leukemia, lymphoma, and/or cancer biology is preferred.

  • Knowledge of conjugation procedures would be considered an asset.
