As a Staff Opto-Mechanical Engineer in the new product development group, you will apply working knowledge of design and engineering principles to develop innovative opto-mechanical solutions for our instrument product lines. You will specialize on the small, precision assemblies that will enable new capability and value to customers.  Your work will enable the field of life sciences, and immunology to have better answers to their biological questions.  You will work across the organization at every stage of the product development cycle, from conception to launch. Note that previous experience in life science or clinical instrumentation is not required.

Job Responsibilities include:

  • Designing, developing, and qualifying new opto-mechanical systems based on requirements
  • Leading and owning the development of opto-mechanical sub-systems, both internally and with strategic external OEM partners
  • Adept at identifying OEM partner capabilities, managing IP and engineering collaborations
  • Compare and clearly communicate engineering strategy to technical and business audience
  • Making informed critical decisions weighing risk, time and dependencies of other teams
  • Analyzing data, preparing reports and presenting results at cross functional team
  • Modeling of opto-mechanical assemblies over a range of conditions
  • Modeling and budgeting performance across interconnected subsystems
  • Performing tolerance analyses, and design of manufacturability
  • Developing manufacturing processes for the sub-systems you create
  • Managing the technical deliverables of key suppliers
  • Ensuring compliance to the company's Global Product Development System and design control requirements

Minimum Qualifications:

Education and Experience:

  • B.S. Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Optical Engineering, Physics or a closely related discipline.
  • Minimum of 8 years of combined academic and commercial experience in mechanical engineering and opto-mechanical systems.
  • Minimum of 5 years' experience in kinematic principles, modern opto-mechanical design, and fabrication techniques including precision and miniaturization.
  • Experience in 3D CAD mechanical design and performance analysis with FEA simulation
  • Experience taking a concept from feasibility prototype to production.
  • Characterize solutions for optical stability, repeatability, and reliability through structure experiment and test.
  • Experience solving problems in a multidisciplinary environment with engineers and scientists.
  • Must have strong lab skills, with ability to perform and document detail-oriented work with a high degree of accuracy.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Willingness to travel up to 10% (global).

Assets:

  • Master’s Degree or Ph.D. with industry experience a plus.
