Job Description

The BD Biosciences website provides tools and information to help researchers and clinicians in their discovery and diagnosis of disease.  The Catalog Syndication Specialist is a critical member of the eBusiness team, responsible for the introduction of new reagent/antibody and instrument products to the website. In addition, this role will be responsible for the creation of custom electronic catalogs for customer procurement and assisting in the execution of new web initiatives including emails, campaign pages, forms and updates to existing web content.  The Catalog Syndication Specialist has substantial understanding of reagent and antibody products as well as flow cytometers, and applies this knowledge to complete a wide range of tasks that are complex in nature in an effort to support the BD Biosciences online catalog and infrastructure systems.

  • He/she can effectively categorize products into a taxonomy based on product descriptions and biological technical data sheets.
  • Has experience in database (SQL) and web programming languages (HTML, CSS 3).  Can program and design Access tables, forms, queries and write code in VBA. 
  • Has experience with ecommerce/marketing systems SAP, Hybris and Marketo, Tridion or other CMS and Adobe Creative Suite greatly desired. 
  • Has capability to monitor various data sources for changes in product status across several systems, and keeps data synchronized across these systems. 
  • Can maintain Desktop Procedures documentation, and create documentation where none exists. Normally receives little instruction on daily work, and general instruction on newly introduced assignments.
  • Can communicate clearly in both a verbal and written format, supporting the BD Biosciences online catalog and infrastructure systems.  May interact with customers, product managers, sales or field service staff, international BD Offices, or marketplace vendor representatives.
  • Coordinates with other departments regarding material status and pricing. Takes initiative to resolve internal customer inquiries or requests through to completion. Works within a specific schedule and within a team environment to ensure both internal and customer satisfaction for catalog customization and accuracy. May determine methods and procedures on new assignments and may provide guidance and training to other associates. Contributes to the mission and financial objectives of the company.

The essential functions of this position include, but are not limited to:

  • Ensures that the customer and material master data is maintained accurately and completely, through effective interactions with the Master Data Organization.
  • Ensures that correct Business Partners are selected such that accurate discounts are applied, that contract orders are accurately recorded, and that the invoicing and collections processes are not adversely affected.
  • Enters data in various systems to ensure accurate and timely display and availability of BD products on the BD Biosciences online catalog. Responds to emails and project tickets, and tracks progress of projects/completion of product specification entry. 
  • Responds to inquiries, by providing verification of current product syndication availability, and is able to provide estimates on time to implement changes to data within system. Performs timely follow up to ensure customer satisfaction and business process integrity.
  • Accurately records and processes all types of product catalog specifications. Interacts with Sales, Marketing, the Master Data Organization, IT and other functional groups to obtain information needed to process orders, quotes, and other requests.
  • Assigned special projects/tasks, including support for catalog product entry and preparation of metrics reports for ticket throughput including statistical analysis, assist with preparation of marketing metrics reports.
  • May be assigned reporting and analysis roles. Ensures that data sources and assumptions which support reporting and analysis are valid, documented, and accessible.
  • Provides suggestions for continuous improvement. Reads, understands, and assists with revisions to processes and procedures as necessary.
  • Keeps abreast of basic requirements for regulatory compliance in own area of work and complies with those requirements. Maintains own training records, at least annually. Participates in training on regulatory issues affecting own area of work as necessary. Brings regulatory compliance questions or issues to the attention of management.
  • Performs other related duties and assignments as required.


  • Expert in use of Microsoft Access and Excel, Word and Powerpoint.
  • Advanced data processing and analysis skills.  Mastery of database concepts and techniques.  Ability to write data manipulation queries and scripts in VBA.  Has competency in HTML language and CSS.

  • Knowledge of SAP or other computer based ERP and order management systems.

  • Requires a Bachelor’s degree and at least 5 years of experience in data processing and marketing operations or equivalent combination of college education and lab experience.
  • Familiarity with biological products helpful.
