Job Description Summary

The Automation Controls Technician assists the department engineering group with the development, implementation, and validation of manufacturing improvements and related quality/engineering activities. Troubleshoot PLC programming problems as they arise in existing production equipment. Develop and implement new PLC programming for process and equipment design improvements. Update schematics, drawings, and documentation during project execution. Comply with all local, state, federal, and BD safety regulations, policies, and procedures. Comply with all local BD quality policies, procedures, and practices through consistent application of sound quality assurance principles and engineering best practices.

Job Description

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Support, and or lead new equipment design and improvements to automation processes. This will include such things as PLC programming, minor electrical design, component selection, schematic modification, and validation activities. Programming/maintaining/troubleshooting existing plant  Assist maintenance personnel and engineering with troubleshooting and repairing equipment in breakdown situations to ensure production efficiencies are achieved. Working with internal/external groups as required to complete project assignments. Assignments will include group projects as well as individual projects. Electrical/electronic troubleshooting Maintain/develop machine vision quality systems used in part measurement and identification.

  • Coordinate and communicate assigned projects and their status with the appropriate personnel and departments.
  • Assist with documentation and training of maintenance personnel to ensure adequate support capabilities.
  • Initiate cost savings opportunities; perform CIP projects, and quality fix projects as assigned by Manager.
  • Maintain up-to-date familiarity with new processes, developments, and methodology through literature, training, and Trade Shows.
  • Comply with all local, state, federal, and BD safety regulations, policies, and procedures including RCRA Hazardous Waste regulations.
  • Comply with all local BD quality policies, procedures, and practices through consistent application of sound quality assurance principles.
  • Other duties as assigned.

REQUIREMENTS:

Minimum Education: 

  • A.S./A.A. degree in electronic technology or manufacturing technology or equivalent experience.

Minimum Experience:

  • Four (4) years of experience in various engineering fields relating to automated manufacturing equipment and processes. To perform this job successfully, the individual must be proficient in the following:
  • PLC Software Programming
  • Servo systems
  • General knowledge of PC hardware and configuration
  • HMI programming
  • Communication systems including ethernet, remote I/O, Sercos, Profibus, Devicenet, DH+, and serial
  • Strong leadership and time management skills as well as the ability to operating in an environment without supervision.
