Production Area Lead

Job Description Summary

Leads the manufacturing activities for team members in assigned area. Responsible for escalating employee performance issues to Operations Leader. Assist Operations Leader in holding associates accountable for production, quality, continuous improvement, safety, housekeeping and overall policy adherence. Coordinates team activities to accomplish department safety, quality, and production goals and objectives.

Job Description

Participates with Operations Leader in staffing plans and ensuring associates are trained to perform their jobs and progress in the future. This includes participation in the following activities: hiring, promotions, rewarding, discipline, and setting/managing overtime for the department.

Ensure an open flow of communication exists between production associates, direct supervisor, and management. 

Represents the concerns of production associates to management, as well as management concerns to production associates.

Actively participate in Continuous Improvement (C.I.) activities and support C.I. programs such as: KAS, 5S, and BDPS. Works with Production Planning to establish production schedules.

Oversee training of team to ensure associates are knowledgeable in and following Standard Work and Good Manufacturing practices.

Work with Supervisor or Training Coordinator to update and monitor associate learning plans in C2C. Ensure fair and consistent application of company and departmental policies procedures and practices. 

Assist in the communication of document and policy changes.

Conduct/initiate root cause investigations for all serious injuries/accidents/near misses for assigned team.

Provides input and documentation of associate's performance, including participation in the annual performance review.

Track production metrics to ensure that department goals are being met. 

Communicates these metrics and progress to associates and management.

Conduct/support department team meetings.

Develop and motivate team members through positive comments, constructive feedback, and recognition.

Works with associates to resolve employee relations issues and concerns; involves Supervisor and HR when needed.

Ensure manufactured products meet the established quality requirements. 

Work with Quality Engineering and/or Supervisor to implement new or revised quality plans.

Coordinates daily production operations.

Comply with all local, state, federal, and BD safety regulations, policies, and procedures including RCRA Hazardous Waste regulations.

Comply with all local BD quality policies, procedures, and practices through consistent application of sound quality assurance principles.

Other duties as assigned.

Requirements:

High school diploma or GED

Effective written and oral communication skills (English), math skills, and interpersonal skills

Proficient Computer skills, basic understand of Microsoft Word and Excel

One to four years of manufacturing experience preferred

One to four years leadership experience
