Job Description Summary

Provide production lead activities in both electromechanical assembly and testing of moderate to highly complex diagnostic instruments, components, spares. Lead on continuous improvement and efficiency opportunities and initiatives within their area of responsibility. Provides leadership in setting work assignments, monitoring and reporting performance, inventory and material transactions, and providing day to day direction to achieve production goals.

Responsibilities and Duties

  • Provide production lead activities in both electromechanical assembly and testing of moderate to complex diagnostic instruments, components, spares.
  • Lead on continuous improvement and efficiency opportunities and initiatives within their area of responsibility. Provides leadership in setting work assignments, monitoring and reporting performance, inventory and material transactions, and providing day to day direction to achieve production goals.
  • Accountable to maintain expected production output, and report daily production metrics effectively.
  • Drives Safety, Quality and Lean Initiatives including PVD boards and Shift Startup Meetings.
  • In conjunction with plant management direction, ensure production area meets all GMP, GDP, ISO, and Safety policies and regulations.
  • Primary contact for work area and ensures good communication occurs within the group and across all functions that interact with the group.
  • Provides feedback into annual reviews for associates working in their designated area.
  • Conducts material / inventory transactions in ERP / Manufacturing system(s) to ensure inventory accuracy and efficiency of supply chain.
  • Manage allocation of hours to production orders for associates working within their area and track performance to standards on a daily basis.  
  • Understand and interpret Work Orders to coordinate manufacturing activities to ensure daily and weekly production goals are accomplished as efficiently as possible.
  • Identify, communicate, and quickly address issues or clear road blocks impacting manufacturing including: part shortages, specification issues, master data issues, etc.
  • Provide training, coaching, and mentoring to other associates as needed.
  • Maintain documentation and records to comply with regulatory requirements and company procedures.
  • Demonstrates the ability to follow established procedures according to Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP)
  • Must follow all BD housekeeping policies and procedures
  • Must follow all BD safety policies and procedures
  • Must be able to work overtime as required to meet BD business requirements

Qualifications

Minimum Education/Experience:

  • AA technical degree plus 2 – 3 years’ experience or 5 years’ specific BD instrument experience plus technical training/Subject matter expert in complex mechanical and electrical tools, operations, and compliance.

Basic Skills:

  • Must demonstrate capability to provide overall support of testing for highly complex instruments
  • Must demonstrate the ability to lead quality, CI, and System reviews including root cause analysis and providing solutions to a wide range of production and system issues
  • Proficiency in system Performance analysis and comprehension.
  • Proven leadership skills capability and ability to mentor, coach, and develop other associates
  • Proven ability and accountability to results and to improve performance and processes across a team, work cell, or project.
  • Must demonstrate a strong ability and commitment to Continuous Improvement. Including ability to initiate, implement, and ongoing support all aspects of Continuous Improvement   (Lean Manufacturing) philosophies through active participation in Blitzes, Shift –start up meetings, Kaizen Action Sheets, Safety, and other CI projects and initiatives.
  • Fundamental knowledge of mechanical tools including torque drivers, gauges, bits, etc.
  • Expert in reading drawings, interpreting and measuring dimensions, requirements, etc.
  • Must demonstrate the ability to manage time across multiple production orders and processes within allotted time standards.
  • Must demonstrate the ability to work effectively in a team setting to reach common goals. 
  • Must demonstrate the ability to understand and work within specified Quality procedures.
  • Must demonstrate the understanding and support of Continuous Improvement (Lean Manufacturing) philosophies through active participation in Blitzes, Shift –start up meetings, Kaizen Action Sheets and other CI projects and initiatives.
  • Proven ability to complete tasks in support of achieving goals and improved performance
  • Experience and Performance as the SME for complex instruments and ability to work with minimal support from Engineers / Technicians
  • Ability to train associates on testing complex systems, conducting repair activities, and conduct complex trouble shooting
  • Must be able to effectively manage frequent assignment changes

Proficient/Working Skills:

  • Must be proficient in English with the ability to read, write, analyze/evaluate charts, follow simple diagrams and perform basic arithmetic
  • Basic proficiency with PCs (Personal Computers) and basic use of a Windows environment is required
  • Strong math and analytical skills.
  • Use independent judgment to plan, perform, make decisions, troubleshoot and problem solve in areas on set up, operations, and processes
  • Proven leadership ability and strong communication skills
  • Effective allocation of resources to maximize efficiency
