Job Description

This demonstrated leader will effectively develop and implement collection strategies. Sr. Manager Medical Billing will guide the medical billing, collections and all aspects of accounts receivable team in an extremely fast paced and growth environment. This position will require a full and comprehensive understanding of the medical billing system and all aspects of revenue cycle management of $100+ million sales and collections entity in Stuart Florida. The position will manage, lead and direct the activities of the centralized billing staff through daily supervision while overseeing all Billing and Accounts Receivable functions.


  • Meeting or exceeding company financial goals as established by executive management related to reimbursement/collection trends.
  • Work cross functionally with the Sales Support, IV, Sales Operations and IT teams to improve “clean claims” processes throughout the organization
  • Manage and develop staff consisting of 2 first line supervisors and 2 managers. Total staff ~85 heads.
  • Establish group goals, objectives and set priorities with responsibility for ensuring accountability for leaders and team members in meeting established goals
  • Develop and implement functional training to provide job growth and ensure technical competence in the areas of commercial, private and government billing and collections.
  • Manage company billing and collections procedures, processes and programs to ensure they meet or exceed legal and regulatory requirements.
  • Development and implementation of daily/weekly/monthly productivity reporting dashboards to facilitate timely and accurate assessment of goal attainment.
  • Derive and support the development of new, innovative perspectives on solving issues regarding reimbursement or procedure coding.
  • Communication to staff and oversight of the execution of the workflow efficiencies identified as a result of daily and monthly team production reviews.
  • Serve as technical expert, in government reimbursement policies and areas of third party reimbursement, and a source for reimbursement information for internal (marketing, sales, etc.) and external (customers, payers, etc.) customers. 
  • Monitor important Medicare and private payer reimbursement policies that may have a significant impact on reimbursement.
  • Develop and maintain policy/procedures with documentation of implemented policies and revisions that are responsive to changes in internal protocol.
  • Enforce policy and performance criteria as established for the overall organization and within the medical billing operations group for each position the Director of Revenue cycle is directly responsible for managing.
  • As a key manager within the finance organization this role would provide strategic insights on all company business processes, investments, key performance indicators and financial reporting.
  • Foster culture of continuous improvement.

Education & Experience

  • Bachelors required. Master’s preferred.
  • 8+ plus years’ progressive experience in medical billing, in a large corporate environment, with Workflow Process Improvement and reimbursement/denials experience, including commercial payers, Medicare, Medicaid, etc.
  • 5+ years’ experience in medical billing and revenue cycle in a healthcare Audit, compliance, billing, collections, A/R follow-up, coding or other relevant work experience.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Excel, Access and Data Analytics.
  • Knowledge and experience with medical billing and electronic workflow software.
  • Understanding the claim submission process and ability to verify transmission of electronic claims
  • Proven experience in reviewing and appealing insurance denials.
  • Knowledge of standard healthcare remark and reason codes driving denials
  • Self-starter with financial and problem solving acumen, along with critical thinking and analytical skills
  • Proven experience developing and implementing new processes and continuous improvement initiatives, and improving upon department metrics.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills with the ability to provide clear, concise directives, with professional diplomacy and positive outcomes. Writing skills to include the ability to effectively provide SOP’s for the various aspects of the revenue cycle including efficient A/R management.
  • Strong leadership skills – ability to lead and serve as an effective team member in a large organization including planning, developing, organizing, directing, managing, and evaluating personnel.
  • Detailed oriented with strong organizational skills, and demonstrated ability to effect positive change.
  • Ability to foster and maintain relationships with internal department heads and staff, external vendors, payers and healthcare providers/clients.
  • Advanced analytical reasoning to include ability to forecast exponentials within work flow processes and reason against outside factors.
