The R&D Staff Engineer is responsible for supporting the development and implementation of new products within the Infection Prevention platform through adherence to established design control processes and good engineering practices.
The R&D Staff Engineer will serve as a technical and/or project leader for novel products while providing assistance to current commercial products and line extensions through scientific review, investigation and support according to the established product development process and quality procedures.
Duties:
Identifies data requirements, often beyond the standard, and collects all relevant data needed to analyze a complex problem, situation or issue
Identifies advanced implications/conclusions from the logical analysis of a complex situation or issue
Tracks internal trends and suggests process improvements based on observations
Approaches issues from multiple perspectives and collaborates with internal/external customers in generating creative, effective and practical solutions
Applies comprehensive understanding of concepts within own technical area to design relatively advanced solutions; demonstrates understanding of key business drivers
Serves as an expert within a technical area and educates others on technical issues
Collaborates with internal/external customers and all relevant parties to deliver services
Gains support and commitment from others within own group / department by communicating expertise and rationale
Demonstrates advanced knowledge of respective scientific/engineering principles in solving moderately complex technical problems
Demonstrates advanced knowledge of the product development and design control processes
Demonstrates advanced knowledge of best in class (i.e., phase gate) process to take product from concept to commercialization
Leads project team meetings and design reviews
Independently tests, analyzes and solves technical problems
Applies advanced statistical techniques and utilizes design of experiments
Establishes product requirements based on customer needs; verifies design output meets design input
Works independently to create design of multiple components, systems or devices
Acts as a resource for colleagues with less experience
Performs other duties as assigned by management
Knowledge, Education, and Skills Required:
Education:
B.S. Mechanical, Biomedical, Plastics, or Chemical Engineering with related scientific experience required
M.S./Ph.D in Engineering preferred
Experience
Minimum of 4 years of related work experience within pharmaceutical or medical device industry required (combination products preferred)
Contribute directly to new product development and transfer to manufacturing
CAD and injection molding experience is preferred, but not required
Infection prevention (antibiotic, antiseptic) is desired, but not required
Expert knowledge and application of scientific principles and techniques
Utilization of Design of Experiments (DoE) for product development
Hands-on use/training with engineering (compression, fatigue, tensile, etc) test equipment
GMP experience/training is preferred, but not required
Expertise in shepherding products through the design control process (design inputs/outputs, risk management, DHF, etc.)
Ability to work with colleagues and multiple clients in a professional and organized manner, and interact effectively with a variety of people from different nationalities, ethnic/cultural backgrounds, and educational levels
Ability to define problems, collect and interpret data, establish facts, draw valid scientific conclusions, and propose solutions or corrective actions
Ability to organize and prioritize work with limited guidance and to manage projects in a timely and effective manner.
Ability to reorganize and reschedule work on short notice in order to meet revised client deadlines
