We are the makers of possible: Business Development Manager Helps Customers with Connected Medication Management

Healthcare systems are under intense pressure to manage costs without sacrificing safety. Not to mention the industry transformation of moving to a value-based care model, in which hospitals are expected to deliver better outcomes at lower cost, with payment tied to performance.

It's complex for sure, which is why BD saw an opportunity a few years ago to carve out a new position – Business Development Managers -- within the Medication Management Solutions (MMS) business to help customers with these challenges.

One such manager is Jeffrey van Rootseler who serves in this role for Benelux.

“I enjoy that I’m helping us shift from a largely product-oriented sales organization to one that is more solutions-focused, which is a change from how we’ve operated in the past,” explained Jeffrey. “As we consider connected medication management, I’m often in front of members of the C-Suite for hospitals sharing how BD is very committed to providing specific solutions to meet their needs and their patients’ needs.”

BD = We are People who give Possibilities Purpose

Healthcare professionals perform incredible work under tremendous pressure. Given the growing complexities in care, there is an opportunity to help protect patients and healthcare professionals from medication errors by connecting medication management touchpoints across the care continuum.

A truly connected medication management ecosystem harnesses data and software innovation to build more safeguards and enhance medication management, meaning a consistent approach across the entire care enterprise.

“Some of the key activities in my role are to engage with C-suite on our connected medication management value proposition, focus on strategic business development, and shape and develop the connected medication management solution for customers. Next to this, it is crucial to also engage and collaborate with external stakeholders and third parties to build a connected medication management network. It is important to make sure that our global solutions also meet local requirements. To be successful in this role the skills and competencies required are teamwork, change management, C-suite engagement, and project management,” explained Jeffrey. He also brings great perspective in helping Account Managers because he began his career at BD in that very role.

Reflecting on BD as an Employer-of-Choice

Jeffrey has enjoyed his career experience with the company and says there are a few key reasons why he intends to remain with BD.

“BD is a very good company to work for. The benefits, personal time off, company holidays, compensation, and opportunities to develop are tremendous. We are a large organization and sometimes move slower than I would like, but overall, I am grateful. I think people sometimes think the grass may be greener at another organization, but I’d offer if they reflect on what they truly get from this company, it would be difficult to find something better for their career,” concluded Jeffrey.
