Job Summary


Responsible for providing support to the safety officer in promoting a safe work environment by performing safety tasks within the plant. This position will also assist the Safety Officer as needed on safety projects.

Essential Job Functions

  • Assist the Safety Officer with monthly safety audits.

  • Review the injury log weekly to ensure all injuries are recorded accurately and completely.

  • Conducts follow-up investigations of accidents/incidents involving employees and reports findings to the Safety Officer.

  • Investigates employee complaints related to health hazards and makes recommendations to management regarding necessary corrective action.

  • Promotes awareness of environmental issues through education and training of personnel, implementation of appropriate procedures, and continual evaluation of current practices.

  • Coordinates activities between various departments such as maintenance, engineering, purchasing, quality control, etc., to ensure compliance with established standards and regulations.

  • Performs routine inspections of facilities to identify potentially hazardous conditions and areas of non-compliance with regulatory agency requirements.

  • Prepares written reports detailing findings of inspections and recommending corrective actions required to achieve and maintain compliance.

  • Attends conferences and seminars relating to environmental matters; stays abreast of changes in governmental regulations pertaining to the industry.

Qualifications


Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Sciences and EHS related field experience, preferred.

  • Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) - 30 hours training, preferred.

  • Two (2) years' experience in a manufacturing setting.

Additional Skills

  • Basic knowledge of ergonomic principles.

  • Understanding of basic math concepts used in data analyses.

  • Experience in root cause analysis (RCA) and Safety Data Sheet (SDS).

  • Knowledge of Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) regulations, Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) regulations, and other applicable Federal, State, and local regulations.

  • Strong computer skills including Microsoft Office Suite.

  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.

  • Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.

  • Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.

  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions.

  • Good problem-solving, organizational, analytical and critical thinking skills.

  • Attention to details.
