Job Description Summary
*Day Shift*The Lead Operator meets all requirements of Level 1 and 2. Consistently applies in-depth knowledge of processes, equipment and knowledge of lean principles, to influence daily workflow of unit that includes coordination of work and ability to coordinate resolution of minor issues and escalate more complex issues in timely manner to mitigate line stoppages and/or defects. As Lead Operator, coordinates with and supports training Team for assessments for operators within the assigned unit. Partners with Unit Trio to coordinate continuous improvement activities to maximize line efficiency.
The operator is considered a technical subject matter expert within the unit and can represent operations in project meetings based on their in-depth knowledge of processes, equipment, and workflow.
Regular and punctual attendance is required. The role requires proficiency in reading, writing, and conversing in English and adherence to BD Values.

Responsibilities in manufacturing unit include but are not limited to:
Independently consistently completes Level 1 and 2 tasks
Proficient in operating all equipment in primary assigned units and able to apply knowledge to support additional units as needed to deliver planned daily volume levels.
Coordinates with operators and Shift Leader to ensure lines operate consistently throughout shift, including but not limited to supporting break coverage.
Applies technical expertise to resolve/escalate equipment stoppages.
Ability to collaborate with Technicians and Engineers to coordinate line improvements/ repairs/preventative maintenance in a manner that minimizes down time and promotes equipment operating at optimal performance levels.
Maintains accurate records and documents as required.
In the absence of Unit Trio, can effectively facilitate a smooth shift transfer and communication, including participation in tier 1 shift start-up meetings.
Support business needs by working overtime as necessary to meet schedule requirements.
Quality support including statistical sampling and root cause analysis.
Work order verification and inventory adjustments
Deliverables for this role include:
Safety- Thinks Safe, Acts Safe! Reports any accident or potential accidents immediately. Advocate for Safety and conducts unit Safety Walks, serves as a member of Site Safety Team.
Quality- Ensures compliance with BD quality systems, policies, procedures, and best practices. Comply with all local, state, federal, and BD safety regulations, including RCRA Hazardous Waste regulations. Serves as On the Job Trainer.
Continuous Improvement/Delivery- Actively participates in Continuous Improvement teams and activities, including lean manufacturing, 5S, blitzes, Shift Start-up, updating PVD boards, etc. Meets or exceeds department KAS completion goals. Provides recommendations for at least two continuous improvement projects during each quarter.
5S- Maintains equipment and an organized clean area by performing tasks such as sweeping, mopping, and wiping down equipment. Performs maintenance tasks according to the applicable certification level including completing autonomous maintenance tasks to maintain assigned equipment/area.

Minimum Education: This position has the following minimum educational requirements:
H.S. Diploma/G.E.D. preferred OR 6 years of industrial/manufacturing experience is preferred
Work Experience:
Proficient as Certified Level 2 Operator for 6 months to 1 year
4 years+ of consecutive manufacturing experience in a related field in lieu of Level 2 Operator Certification
Minimum Knowledge, Skills, or Abilities (KSA’s):
Must complete Level 1 - 2 Job Skills Assessments.
Complete continuous learning courses on leadership.
Complete technical certification for Automation Maintenance Operator level 2.
Must be able to read & write in written English and communicate in verbal English
Effectively communicates within department and between materials, organization, production, and management.
Punctual and accountable for attendance in accordance with company policies to ensure production
Ability to motivate and inspire positive results
Knowledge of basic Factory Flow principles
Moderate proficiency with PCs (Personal Computers) including use Excel and PowerPoint
Language skills – English – Proficient required; Spanish – Proficient preferred
