Job Description Summary

The Hardware Mechatronics Technician will help craft, develop, build and commercialize pharmacy automation devices with multiple subsystems. Specifically, this position will be responsible for the verification and validation of a system with robust and efficient architecture, ensuring a detailed and well-tested design. The mechatronics technician’s responsibilities includes verification testing, general engineering support, test system maintenance, prototype fabrication, and product sustaining activities.

Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Verification testing

  • Responsible for configuring machines and subsystems to match the conditions under test.

  • Assist Engineering in the creation of Product Qualification Plans (PQPs)

  • Perform product and subsystem testing as specified in the PQPs

  • Run software install managers to ensure smooth deployment to the factory and field.

  • Document the test results in an official report once the testing is complete

  • Assist in the fabrication of prototypes and other test systems.

  • Assist in the fabrication of printed circuit board assemblies and wiring harnesses.

  • Test system maintenance

  • Maintain test system inventory such that Pharmacy Automation can test new software and hardware changes against the expected configurations that will be seen in the service fleet.

  • Maintain the Pharmacy Automation test labs to ensure that they are safe and useable to the parties who use them.

  • Shared responsibility for the maintenance of onsite 3D printers.

  • Prototype fabrication

  • Use machine tools to fabricate prototype parts and assemblies under the direction of product engineers.

  • Use 3D printing technologies to fabricate prototype parts.

  • Use CAD (SolidWorks preferred) and our PLM (Aras currently) system to affect simple changes through the ECO process.

  • Design simple parts and assemblies as directed by the team lead.

  • Perform failure analysis on parts, assemblies, and systems. Analysis includes but is not limited to: Root Cause Analysis, Defects Failure Modes and Effect Analysis, Fish bone diagrams, and 5 Why’s.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Ability to work in a team environment.

  • Ability to read, use and interpret mechanical drawings, electrical schematics, and technical manuals.

  • Ability to use a pallet jack

  • Demonstrated problem solving and technical aptitude.

  • Ability to debug, tackle, and repair electro-mechanical assemblies.  

  • Ability to solder cables and printed circuit board assemblies for prototype generation would be a plus.

  • Ability to work within a 5S framework and contribute to its upkeep.

  • Experience in analyzing and documenting test results and equipment performance data.

  • Knowledge of computer configuration and system deployment.

  • Familiarity with Microsoft Office products and a basic knowledge of personal computers and Microsoft operating systems (Windows XP, Win 10 etc.).

  • Advanced Excel capabilities a plus.

  • Experience with MiniTab and statistical tools/modeling would be a plus.


Experience & Education Requirements

  • Two-year degree in electronics or sophisticated mechanical field.Equivalent on the job experiencealso considered.

  • Five years related industry/equipment/reliability laboratory experience.

  • Strong mechanical proficiency and the ability to use tools to perform mechanical work.


Preferred

  • Bachelor’s degree preferred

Mental/Physical Requirements:

  • Requires reading; math; weighing and/or measuring; conducting research; analyzing and drawing conclusions; developing and implementing plans, procedures, solutions

  • Requires sitting, standing, and bending frequentlyStooping and kneeling occasionally.

  • Ability to safely lift up to 45 pounds unaided.
