About the role
We’re looking for an Applications Specialist, based in South Africa (Cape Town or Johannesburg), to help drive BD Biosciences' application excellence and commercial success across the region. In this role, you'll collaborate with external customers and internal teams to deliver advanced training and ensure effective implementation of flow cytometry applications. Working across a range of platforms including research and clinical instruments, high-end sorters, multicolor analyzers, and custom panel designs. You'll also provide strategic support to help meet sales and business goals.
Main responsibilities will include:
Assist customers in implementing and troubleshooting flow cytometry applications.
Provide support in sample preparation, data analysis, and interpretation.
Evaluate quality control issues and raise when products do not meet specifications.
Develop and maintain training materials including presentations, manuals, lesson plans, and course handouts.
Deliver hands-on and virtual training sessions at various levels: basic, standard, advanced, expert.
Participate in new product launch training and attend regional application assemblies.
Provide telephone and onsite support to local application specialists and customer teams.
Maintain consistent communication with other BD specialists to ensure unified customer messaging.
Establish and champion relationships with key partners and BD distributors.
Contribute to lead identification and provide market intelligence.
Support product introductions and help shape market development strategies.
Work alongside distributors to drive regional projects.
Record customer interactions, sales activities, and forecasts using CRM tools (e.g., Salesforce).
Conduct regular skills assessments and report training progress to internal teams.
About you
Diploma or Degree in Biochemistry, Biology, Chemistry, Medical Technology, Medical Science, Biomedical Technology, or similar life sciences field.
Hands-on experience with clinical and research flow cytometers.
Experience in Haematology or Immunology laboratories (clinical or research settings).
Strong intuition for business and ability to operate in competitive environments.
Skilled in troubleshooting, problem-solving, and delivering impactful presentations.
Highly motivated and results-oriented individual.
Proficient in spoken and written English.
