Job Description Summary

Experienced engineering resource responsible for process capability, cost reduction and continuous improvement project implementation within their designated manufacturing unit. Provides specific engineering work related to assigned team with broad overlap between engineering disciplines expected. Support capacity planning and growth, as well as define budgeted rates and process documentation. Ensures compliance with BD quality systems, policies, procedures and best practices, and all local, state, federal and BD safety regulations, policies and procedures. Lead the full scope of project responsibilities to completion.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Champion Continuous Improvement - Spearhead BD Excellence initiatives that enhance safety, reduce costs, and optimize manufacturing processes while creating lasting positive change
  • Master Technical Excellence - Identify and document critical equipment parameters, creating robust standards that ensure consistent, high-quality production
  • Build Knowledge Capital - Develop and transfer valuable technical expertise to operators and associates, empowering our team with skills for success
  • Mentor and Inspire - Coach associates and engineers on cutting-edge improvement methodologies, fostering a culture of innovation and excellence
  • Drive Performance - Analyze manufacturing losses, develop strategic plans to eliminate inefficiencies, and boost Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE)
  • Lead Change Management - Oversee manufacturing unit change control, including validation activities and root cause analysis of quality events
  • Uphold Quality Standards - Support facility-wide quality systems and contribute to tactical plans
  • Engineer Solutions - Design, develop, qualify, and validate manufacturing processes and equipment with precision and creativity
  • Collaborate Across Teams - Participate in cross-functional project teams and execute individual tasks with excellence and accountability
  • Apply Technical Expertise - Conduct mechanical/electrical testing and gauge repeatability and Reproducibility (R&R) studies with meticulous attention to detail
  • Analyze with Precision - Apply statistical analysis techniques including process capability assessments and Design of Experiments
  • Solve Complex Problems - Troubleshoot processes, equipment, and quality systems while implementing effective corrective actions
  • Exercise Leadership - Use independent judgment in managing projects and making critical decisions that impact production
  • Provide Engineering Wisdom - Offer sound engineering judgment based on expertise and experience
  • Apply Materials Knowledge - Leverage understanding of materials for GFO product designs in your areas of responsibility
  • Educate and Empower - Effectively train manufacturing employees on specifications and processes to ensure operational excellence
  • Bridge Technical Gaps - Serve as the vital technical interface between engineering and manufacturing teams

Education and Experience:

  • High School Diploma and 7 years engineering experience in a manufacturing environment OR

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering or other technical field of study and 2 years engineering experience

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Six Sigma Certification.

  • Experience in Lean Manufacturing.

  • Experience in a regulated environment.

Knowledge and Skills:

  • Understanding and ability to apply lean principles and tools.

  • Demonstrates strong communication skills across all levels of the organization (internal and external).

  • Proven ability to work collaboratively within a team and contribute to team-building efforts.

  • Demonstrates initiative and the ability to think independently, driving tasks and projects forward without constant supervision.

  • Capable of making informed and timely decisions, considering various factors and potential outcomes.

  • Proficiency in machinery design, including understanding mechanical principles and engineering concepts.

  • Strong skills in identifying issues and developing effective solutions to resolve them.

  • Knowledge of safety standards and ergonomic practices to ensure a safe and comfortable working environment.

  • Understanding of quality management systems and processes to maintain high standards of work.

  • Skills in organizing and managing logistics, ensuring efficient planning and execution of tasks.

  • Proficiency in using computer software Microsoft Office applications, statistical analysis, CAD (Solidworks preferred).

  • Understanding of financial principles and the ability to manage budgets and financial resources effectively.

  • Capable of translating technical documents to manufacturing operators.

  • Ability to be flexible, and deal with changing priorities.

  • Take initiative in learning new technologies and materials.

  • Ability to solve problems and conflicts, work well with others and demonstrate teamwork.

  • Able to travel as needed.

Physical Demands:

  • Ability to safely perform area-specific gowning procedures. These may include but are not limited to: Donning a smock with zippers and/or snaps, sitting or standing (with a safety bar) to apply shoe covers over the top of shoes, applying gloves, walking over or around benches in the transition area, and bending, stooping, and reaching motions.

  • Ability to lift and move 35 lbs. (over 35 lbs. with assistance).

  • Ability to utilize all area-specific PPE including but not limited to: eye protection, respiratory protection and hearing protection as required.

Work Environment:
Medical device manufacturing environment. May require some exposure to chemicals used in manufacturing processes. Some minor physical inconvenience or discomfort occasionally present in the work situation (moderate noise, disagreeable odors, etc.). Appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) will be provided and must be maintained by the associate.
