Position Summary
We are looking for a Control Engineer to support and improve our automated manufacturing lines for diagnostic reagents. This role is critical to ensuring high product quality, regulatory compliance, and operational efficiency in a high-throughput, GMP-regulated environment. The ideal candidate will bring deep expertise and leadership in industrial automation, process control, and data integrity.
Job Responsibilities
Serve as the technical lead for designing, programming, and commissioning controls and automation systems for new and existing high-volume production lines.
Develop and program PLC logic (e.g., Allen-Bradley, Siemens), HMI/SCADA interfaces, and motion control systems to optimize equipment performance, safety, and cycle time.
Design and implement robotics programs for automated assembly and material handling.
Integrate machine vision systems (e.g., Cognex, Keyence) for automated inspection, quality control, and guidance.
Lead troubleshooting and root cause analysis for complex electrical, software, and mechanical issues to minimize downtime and prevent recurrence.
Collaborate with cross-functional projects teams, including manufacturing, quality, IT, and maintenance.
Ensure all controls and software development comply with FDA regulations and quality system procedures, such as design reviews and validation protocols (IQ/OQ/PQ).
Generate and revise technical documentation, including electrical schematics, user requirement specifications (URS), functional specifications (FS), and standard operating procedures (SOPs).
Drive continuous improvement initiatives using methodologies like Lean Manufacturing and Six Sigma to increase Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE).
Provide mentorship and technical guidance to junior engineers and maintenance technicians.
Manage and coordinate activities with external vendors and integrators for new equipment installations and upgrades.
Education and Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics, or a related field;
5+ years of hands-on experience in controls engineering within a high-volume manufacturing environment.
Expert-level proficiency in PLC programming with Allen-Bradley ControlLogix/CompactLogix and FactoryTalk View.
Extensive experience with motion control systems, servo drives, and industrial robotics.
Proven ability to design and integrate machine vision systems into automated sequences.
Solid understanding of industrial networking protocols such Ethernet/IP.
Experience with automated data collection and integration with Manufacturing Execution Systems (MES) is a plus.
Strong experience working within a regulated environment and a solid understanding of validation procedures (IQ/OQ/PQ).
Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
Demonstrated ability to lead projects, collaborate with cross-functional teams, and mentor other engineers.
