The Market Development Manager, Laboratory Solutions is responsible for shaping and executing the strategic direction of the Lab Automation, Data Management, ID/AST (Identification and Susceptibility Testing), and Informatics portfolios in the Canadian market. This role translates business strategy into impactful, customer-centric marketing programs that drive differentiation, value creation, and market growth.

In addition to portfolio ownership, the Market Development Manager leads national market development initiatives and serves as a subject matter expert, actively supporting the sales organization through customer engagements, technical consultations, and strategic positioning. This role plays a critical part in aligning commercial efforts with portfolio strategy to accelerate adoption and deliver measurable business outcomes.

Responsibilities:

  • Management of the Laboratory Solutions product lines, portfolio includes BD Kiestra, BD Phoenix, BD Synapsys and Bruker MALDI
  • Responsible for providing inputs into financial budgeting/forecasting and demand planning, and gross profit analysis
  • Responsible for the launch process for managed products lines, including completing launch plans, pricing, promotion, and ensuring regional readiness to launch
  • Responsible for identifying market trends, competition behaviors, and customer needs to maximize business opportunities and minimize potential threats
  • Developing and executing against annual marketing plan and long-term strategic plans to respond to the needs of the Canadian market
  • Support and participation in sales planning, opportunity management and customer engagements
  • Responsible for ensuring that the Canadian sales team has appropriate tools, training and support required to enable sales and actively participate in sales presentations when requested.
  • Developing and using relationships with the global platform to ensure Canadian needs are met and to provide input for new product developments
  • Driving market development activities, including development of a strong Key Opinion Leader (KOL) network, engaging partners outside the clinical microbiology lab.

Education and Experience required:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Life Sciences or Medical Laboratory Technologist (MLT) designation, combined with a Bachelor's or MBA.
  • 5+ years of experience in the diagnostics industry, with a strong background in laboratory automation and informatics solutions.
  • Brings deep expertise in the Canadian healthcare and diagnostics market, with a proven ability to navigate regional dynamics, regulatory frameworks, and customer expectations to drive adoption, growth, and strategic alignment across national portfolios.

Knowledge and Skills required:

  • Exceptional presenter with the ability to communicate complex concepts clearly and persuasively across diverse audiences.
  • Strong analytical mindset and financial acumen, enabling data-driven decision-making and strategic resource management.
  • Highly collaborative team player, recognized for outstanding interpersonal and communication skills that foster trust and alignment.
  • Influential cross-functional leader, able to drive initiatives and gain buy-in without formal authority.
  • Skilled in executive-level engagement, with the ability to build strong relationships across all levels of management.
  • Proven ability to manage multiple high-impact projects under tight deadlines, prioritize effectively, and deliver results.
  • Organized, resourceful, and entrepreneurial, consistently identifying opportunities for innovation and improvement.
  • Proficient with Microsoft office suite, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook.
  • Understanding of the CLSI & EUCAST guidelines for Laboratories.

Preferred qualifications

  • MBA or MSc/PhD is an asset
  • Microbiology degree preferred
  • Clinical Microbiology experience preferred
  • Marketing and product launch experience an asset
  • Bilingual English and French an asset
  • Proficiency with Salesforce an asset

Physical demands & Work environment

  • Ability to travel approximately 25% across Canada, as well as to Drachten (Netherlands) and Sparks (Maryland), for customer presentations, site visits, conferences, and BD internal meetings.
