This packaging engineer will report through the ISC organization. The associate will execute PIVC packaging projects on behalf of R&D in order to drive more cost savings initiatives.

Summary: 
The Staff Packaging Engineer will be responsible for development of new packaging systems, processes, and materials to meet customer requirements and business needs while driving costs down and improving GP within BD's PIVC product families.   The position requires knowledge of current good manufacturing practices (cGMP) and design control as well as ISO 11607.   The Staff Packaging Engineer must have strong communication skills and work effectively and efficiently in a team environment. The engineer needs to be assertive and focused to drive efficiency and compliance in project execution.

Responsibilities:
1. Develops and/or qualifies new packaging systems/processes/materials to meet customer requirements and business needs.  
2. Plans and executes appropriate testing to validate package integrity and performance.  
3. Applies basic knowledge of engineering analysis tools such as stress analysis, tolerance stack up calculations, material property data, etc., to develop innovative packaging solutions.  
4. Supports plant trials to evaluate and qualify new packaging.  
5. Generates documentation including specifications, test protocols, validation protocols/reports, change controls, deviation investigations, vendor quotes, and other relevant technical documents.  
6. Assists in establishing and maintaining cGMP compliance for existing products.  
7. Maintains effective working relationships with suppliers, internal and external customers, and outside resources concerning technical issues.  
8. Communicates requirements and results to team through written reports, oral presentations, and direct contact.  
9. Works effectively in a team environment as well as independently.  

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (packaging preferred) plus five years of experience in packaging development and qualification (regulated industry such as Medical or Pharma preferred) OR Master’s degree plus one year of experience.

  • Strong knowledge and experience with ISO 11607  

  • Strong interpersonal skills to communicate effectively with all levels within the organization and outside the organization.    

  • Ability to understand and interpret drawings and specifications.  

  • Basic knowledge of statistics.  

  • Basic knowledge of current Good Manufacturing Practices (cGMP).  

  • Basic knowledge of Design Control and Quality Systems Regulations.  

  • Ability to travel internationally and domestically up to 25%.
