It takes the imagination and passion of all of us—from design and engineering to the manufacturing and marketing of our billions of MedTech products per year—to look at the impossible and find transformative solutions that turn dreams into possibilities.

We believe that the human element, across our global teams, is what allows us to continually evolve. Join us and discover an environment in which you’ll be supported to learn, grow and become your best self. Become a maker of possible with us.

The Diagnostic Solutions business is a global leader in microbiology with a portfolio of innovative diagnostic solutions. We are seeking a visionary and experienced Director of Software Test to lead our global software testing organization. This is a critical leadership role responsible for ensuring the quality and reliability of software that powers our laboratory instruments and our enterprise informatics platform.

The ideal candidate will be a strategic thinker with a strong technical background and a passion for quality. You will be responsible for developing and implementing a comprehensive software testing strategy that incorporates agile best practices, enterprise-level tools, and effective test coverage across our entire product ecosystem. This includes software embedded in our instruments, as well as our integrated informatics platform that manages laboratory workflows, data analytics, and integration with Laboratory Information Systems (LIS).

Responsibilities

  • Strategic Leadership: Develop and lead the execution of strategic software testing priorities that align with our product roadmap and business objectives.  Drive a culture of quality and continuous improvement across the software development lifecycle.
  • Comprehensive Test Strategy: Define and oversee the implementation of a comprehensive test strategy that covers all aspects of our software, including:
    • Embedded software for our laboratory instruments.
    • Our enterprise informatics platform, including its data repository, analytics capabilities, and integration engine.
    • End-to-end workflow testing across multiple instruments and the informatics platform.
    • Functional, regression, performance, security, and usability testing.
  • Agile and DevOps Transformation: Champion and implement agile testing best practices, including enabling effective continuous integration, continuous delivery (CI/CD), and automated testing, to accelerate delivery without compromising quality.
  • Automation Framework: Drive the development and adoption of a robust and scalable test automation framework to deliver impact by improving team efficiency and product quality.
  • Metrics and Reporting: Establish key performance indicators (KPIs) and metrics to track testing progress, quality trends, and team performance.  Provide regular reports to senior leadership on the status of software quality.
  • Collaboration: Collaborate closely with cross-functional teams, including software development, product management, quality assurance, and regulatory affairs, to ensure alignment and a shared understanding of quality objectives.
  • Regulatory Compliance: Ensure that all software testing activities are conducted in compliance with relevant regulatory standards captured within the design controls and Quality Management System.
  • Tools and Infrastructure: Evaluate and select appropriate testing tools and infrastructure to support our testing strategy and enhance team productivity.
  • Team Leadership and Development: Lead, mentor, and grow a high-performing team of software test engineers and managers across multiple geographic locations.  Foster a collaborative and innovative environment that encourages professional growth and development.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related technical field
  • 10+ years of experience in software quality assurance, with at least 5 years in a leadership role managing a software test or QA team
  • Proven experience in a regulated industry, preferably medical device, in-vitro diagnostics (IVD), or a related healthcare field
  • Demonstrated experience in developing and implementing a comprehensive software test strategy for a complex product ecosystem, including both embedded and enterprise software
  • Extensive experience with agile development methodologies and implementing agile testing practices
  • Strong background in test automation, including the development and implementation of automation frameworks and strategies
  • In-depth knowledge of software testing principles, methodologies, and best practices
  • Expertise in various types of testing, including functional, non-functional, and integration testing
  • Familiarity with regulatory requirements for software in medical devices (e.g., FDA QSR, ISO 13485)
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to influence and motivate teams
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with a data-driven approach to decision-making
