Key tasks and strategic accountability:

  • Lead strategy development and deployment (SDD).  Ensure strategic alignment through cascading Key Performance Indicators (K.P.I.s’) top down and bottom up.  Support site leadership team in creating strategic vision of improvement goals, site master plan (deployment roadmap and maturity expectations based on priorities) and governance process across relevant BD Excellence components.

  • Partner with plant Leadership team and Business Unit Managers / Leader to co-develop and achieve the plant’s implementation of the BD Excellence and Cost to Win plan /budget.

  • Coach the plant leadership team, with regards to BD Excellence, with focus on external and internal benchmarking.  Develop and mentor zero loss mentality across critical areas to optimize quality, delivery and cost while improving safety. 

  • Develop and grow capability through components and component teams to establish the fundamentals of excellence in safety, quality, and reliability.  Coach and guide site to ensure focus of resources and time on priorities.

  • Coordinate BD Excellence components deployment.  Continue to drive BD Excellence capability development through deployment of progressively advanced aspects of component methodologies.  Achieve long term CI objectives through multi-functional alignment of all resources toward shared goals.

  • Teach, coach, and demonstrate proficiency in BD Excellence concepts and systematic approach, including strategy development & deployment (SDD), core components, Zero Loss mentality and all related methodologies / tools.  Lead and facilitate breakthrough Kaizen events.

  • Lead the Focused Improvement component team.  Develop and grow problem solving capability at all levels.  Support collaboration within the site leadership team to generate, sustain, and deliver a multi-year Cost to Win (CTW) portfolio, oversee optimization of the site loss landscape.

  • Coordinate activity of component teams and focused improvement project teams to eliminate loss, according to strategic goals.  Meet or exceed operational (factory-loss) CtW (Cost to Win) goals through leading and /or supporting Focused Improvement team savings projects driven by loss awareness and maturing loss landscape.

  • Develop and grow BD Excellence capability to help the site deliver a multi-year cost-to-win (CtW) program.  Focus on building capability that improves problem solving, increases loss awareness, and empowers teams to eliminate factory-loss in an impactful, efficient, and sustainable way.

  • In support of strategic goals, coordinate the development and implementation of factory-loss improvement objectives.  Provide information to the site finance team to enable financial reporting.

  • Create and manage CI budget. Immediate supervisor of BD Excellence Factory Engineers.

  • Report progress on OEE, savings, etc. for BD Excellence global reporting and visibility.

Sphere of influence:

  • Serve on plant leadership team.

  • Provides input into key plant decisions and resource planning.

  • May represent company to external organizations.

  • Performs responsibilities with a large degree of autonomy requiring minimal day-to-day oversight by immediate supervisor.

Impact on results:

  • Accountable for the achievement of key operational goals, including the operational (factory-loss) element of cost-to-win.  Accountable for achievement of OPEX goals including BD EXCELLENCE capability development to achieve sustained SQDC performance improvement.

  • Plays critical role in key projects, initiatives, and breakthrough events, e.g., drive OEE /OLE with purpose.

  • Erroneous decisions may result in considerable expenditure of human capital and budgeted resources.

  • Has significant impact on cost and productivity.

  • Manages OPEX budget.

  • Accountable to maintain and optimize plant loss landscape and multi-year cost-to-win project pipeline.

  • Responsible for plant CtW performance.

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS

  • Proven experience in project management and facilities management within a manufacturing environment.

  • Strong leadership and team management skills.

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and work under pressure.

  • Proficiency in project management software and tools.

  • Experience and understanding with Lean Manufacturing principles (Six Sigma or Lean Leader certifications preferred).

SUPERVISION

Levels of Supervision: 3 to 4 individuals

This position has the following level of supervision: 

  • Exempt Associates: Up to three members of the CI team, and the Learning and Development Leader for a total of four direct reports. 

QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS

Minimum Education:

  • B.A./B.S. in Engineering or Business Administration

Minimum Experience:

  • Minimum 7 years manufacturing experience

  • Minimum 4-5 years leadership/supervisory experience in a plant

  • Minimum 3 years’ experience operating a production system and/or OPEX required  Certified or recognized as a Production System practitioner preferred

  • Previous experience in implementing, and solid understanding of, Lean and Six Sigma business systems. Six Sigma Black Belt certification preferred

  • Experience of working in a multi-site and multi-cultural environment

Minimum Knowledge, Skills, or Abilities (KSA’s):

  • High Speed Automation Manufacturing proficiency

  • Demonstrated passion for safety, customer centricity, and operational excellence

  • Excellent understanding of the interaction between operational excellence and customer service

  • Excellent and effective verbal and written communication skills with people at all levels

  • Strong track record in project or program management

  • Business insight and ability to display the linkage between projects and desired business results

  • Flexible and able to travel. Expected travel up to 25%

  • Language: Fluent English mandatory

Physical Capacity and Work Environment:

  • This position requires frequent movement across various areas of the manufacturing plant, including crosswalks, ladders, etc. and must be able to navigate safely and efficiently, adhering to all safety protocols and guidelines to avoid accidents and ensure smooth operations.

  • Additionally, involves working in areas where the environment can be hot due to machinery and manufacturing processes. Must be able to tolerate various temperatures throughout the plant and take necessary precautions to stay hydrated and cool. Proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE) is required to ensure safety and protection. 

  • Ability to stand, walk, and move for extended periods.

  • Must be able to lift and carry 40 pounds or less on an occasional basis.

Work Environment:

  • BD is a smoke-free campus.  Smoking and the use of electronic smoking devices, marijuana, or tobacco products are not allowed on BD property, grounds or in the parking areas.  We appreciate your cooperation in adhering to this policy

  • False eyelashes, press-on fingernails, and Jewelry is not allowed on the production floor including dermals.  Any associate wearing dermals will be required to cover them while working on the production floor. 

  • Shoes are required to be Steel Toe and non-slip for all associates while on the production floor for safety purposes.
