About the role

As Assistant General Counsel,EMEAyou will serve as a senior strategic legal advisor to BD’s businesses, manufacturing sites, and functional leaders across the Central & Eastern Europe region, as well as selected Business Units at the EMEA level. This role also carries leadership responsibilities within the broader EMEA Law Group. You will act as a key partner to regional leadership, providing business‑aligned legal guidance that enables growth, protects the company, and strengthens BD’s culture of integrity and compliance.

Main responsibilities will include:

• Lead, oversee, and handle all legal affairs for BD and its subsidiaries in C&EE, including, but not limited to, contracts and other commercial matters, compliance with anti trust and competition laws, litigation and dispute settlement, corporate housekeeping, compliance with laws and regulations applicable to the Company’s operations, and the monitoring of relevant legislative and regulatory developments.

• Advise regional and BU leadership on high‑impact commercial matters, strategic initiatives, and complex projects; effectively steward relationships with external law firms and manage legal spend.

• Build and sustain strong, collaborative relationships with senior business and functional leaders across the region, acting as a trusted counselor and strategic partner.

• Supervise, guide, and influence the handling of litigation and conflict resolution matters to ensure effective, business‑aligned outcomes.

• Serve as a mentor and role model on ethics, compliance, and values, contributing to a culture of integrity and accountability across geographies and teams.

• Foster close collaboration with corporate functions and participate actively in Law Group and enterprise‑wide initiatives; maintain ongoing alignment with the Chief Counsel and provide regular updates on legal trends, risks, and developments.

• Apply deep legal and commercial expertise to support innovation, business growth, and operational excellence across the region.

About you

You are qualified to practice law in Germany, Switzerland, or Austria, with at least 10 years of post-qualification experience in major law firms or international companies. Your expertise includes business counseling, contract negotiation, antitrust laws, and litigation. You have led teams and have outstanding communication skills. You are collaborative, strategic, and capable of working autonomously within a complex matrix structured global business.

You demonstrate:

• Solid understanding of international trade and export control laws

• Experience in risk, issue, and change management

• Exceptional communication skills, able to convey complex analyses clearly and persuasively at senior levels

• High integrity, sound judgment, and the confidence to take principled positions

• A collaborative and inclusive leadership style with strong business acumen

• The ability to influence across cultures and functions and contribute to strategic decision‑making

• A proactive mindset focused on identifying risks and opportunities, driving continuous improvement, and constructively challenging the status quo.

The minimum annual gross salary for this position is €125 000 (full-time basis). Based on individual skills and experience, we offer appropriate additional payment.
